Quick answer
For Pelham NH home shredding, New Hampshire Document Shredding takes walk-in drop-offs at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA, about 11 miles from the Pelham Village Green on Route 38 and typically 25 to 35 minutes away. You pay 99 cents a pound plus $34.90 in per-job fees, so one 30-pound banker’s box is about $64.60 and the cost per box falls to about $23.49 at ten boxes. Pelham is in pickup Zone 1, which adds $129.95 if we collect from your house. For business options too, see our main page on shredding service Pelham NH.
Route 38: the shortest drive from New Hampshire to our shredder
We shred in one building, our office on Main Street in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. We have no office, kiosk or drop box in Pelham or anywhere else in New Hampshire. For most towns that means a highway run. For Pelham it means turning onto Bridge Street and staying on it.
Bridge Street is Route 38. It leaves the Village Green, runs south past Pelham’s shops and service businesses, crosses into Dracut and keeps its number all the way to Tewksbury, where it is called Main Street. Our building sits on that same road. When we mapped the drive from each New Hampshire town center we serve, Pelham came out shortest, at about 11 miles.
On a clear day the trip takes about 25 minutes. Allow 35 when Lowell is busy, because the stretch through the city, where Route 38 follows Nesmith Street and then Rogers Street, is where traffic decides your time. You never touch I-93 or I-495.
- We open at 10 a.m., after the morning rush through Lowell has cleared
- The last hour before 5 p.m. is the slowest time on the Lowell stretch
- Parking is free at the door, and staff will help you unload
- Paper you drop off is shredded the same business day
If you have never been to our building, here is what happens when you pull in. Park out front, come in, and tell whoever is at the counter that you have boxes in the car. Someone brings a cart out and helps you unload. We weigh the paper, you pay, and you leave with a receipt. The paper is shredded that business day, and your Certificate of Destruction is the record you keep.
Salem households have a slightly longer run down I-93, covered in our Salem to Tewksbury drop-off guide. From Pelham, the back way is the main way.
Pelham NH home shredding cost per box
A home job is almost always priced by the pound, because the flat box rate starts at 10 boxes. A standard banker’s box of paper weighs about 30 pounds, so a box costs about $29.70 to shred. Every job then adds $34.90 in per-job fees: $14.95 for the HIPAA filing that covers your Certificate of Destruction and $19.95 for recycling the shred. The full price list is on our shredding rates page.
| Boxes | How it’s priced | Drop-off total | Drop-off per box | Zone 1 pickup total | Pickup per box |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 30 lb at 99¢ | $64.60 | $64.60 | $194.55 | $194.55 |
| 3 | 90 lb at 99¢ | $124.00 | $41.33 | $253.95 | $84.65 |
| 5 | 150 lb at 99¢ | $183.40 | $36.68 | $313.35 | $62.67 |
| 10 | $20 per large box | $234.90 | $23.49 | $364.85 | $36.49 |
| 20 | $20 per large box | $434.90 | $21.75 | $564.85 | $28.24 |
Two fixed charges drive the per-box number down as you bring more. The $34.90 per-job fees are the same for one box or twenty. So is the $129.95 Zone 1 fee on a pickup. Spread across one box, they are most of the bill. Spread across twenty, they nearly disappear.
That is why our advice to Pelham households is to save up. One box of statements on its own costs $64.60. Wait until spring, add the old tax years you can now let go, and three boxes cost about $41 each. If you are clearing a whole house, ten boxes at the flat rate cost less per box than anything else we offer.
Counter tip: if you have eight or nine boxes, bring a tenth. Nine boxes by the pound run about $267.30 before fees. Ten boxes at the $20 flat rate are $200, about $67 less.
The scale has the final word. A box packed tight with checks and file folders can weigh more than 30 pounds, a loose one less. Paper in grocery bags or a laundry basket is fine too. Our page on residential shredding cost compares these numbers with a home shredder and with free events.
What Pelham households bring us
Most of the Pelham residents who walk in are dealing with one of four piles. Each one has its own timing and its own rules about what to keep.
The tax-season box
Returns and worksheets past the IRS keep period. Most records can go after 3 years, 6 if income was underreported by more than 25 percent, 7 for a worthless securities or bad debt claim.
A parent’s papers
Bank statements, medical bills and old checkbooks from an estate. Keep what the executor needs first. Our guide to shredding after a death lists what to hold.
The pre-move purge
Downsizing or selling the house means emptying file cabinets nobody has opened in years. Our list of what to shred before moving helps you sort fast.
The kitchen drawer
Credit card offers, old utility bills, explanation of benefits letters and pay stubs. Small, steady, and the easiest identity theft target in the house.
One more pile shows up from Pelham often enough to mention. If you rent out an apartment or a house and pull credit reports on applicants, the FTC Disposal Rule (16 CFR Part 682) applies to you too. The FTC names individuals who get credit reports on prospective tenants, and the rule says to burn, pulverize or shred those reports when you dispose of them.
Anything with an account number, a Social Security number, a signature or a medical detail belongs in the shred box. Plain envelopes, catalogs and flyers don’t. If you are not sure about bank statements in particular, our post on whether to shred old bank statements walks through it.
Make one Pelham trip count
With the per-job fees fixed, the cheapest way to shred is fewer, fuller trips. Here’s how Pelham regulars do it.
- Keep a shred box all year. One banker’s box by the desk or in the mudroom. Anything sensitive goes in instead of the recycling bin.
- Add the tax years in spring. Once your return is filed, pull the oldest year you no longer need under the IRS rules and add it to the box.
- Leave the staples in. Staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders are fine. Remove three-ring binder hardware, hanging-folder frames and anything that is not paper.
- Bag the electronics. Old phones, hard drives and discs are destroyed and quoted per item. Keep them separate from the paper.
- Drive down Route 38 midday. Come any weekday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. We weigh the paper, you pay, and you leave with your Certificate of Destruction.
Before any box leaves the house, flip through it once more. Shredding is permanent. Birth certificates, deeds, car titles, passports, family photos and anything else you can’t replace tend to hide in old file folders, and we would much rather you find them at your kitchen table than at our counter.
A Pelham household that shreds once a year this way pays the $34.90 in fees once, not four times. Our post on the household paper shredding budget shows how to estimate a year of paper in pounds.
When a Zone 1 pickup makes sense for a Pelham home
Pelham is one of the New Hampshire border towns in our Zone 1, so a pickup adds a $129.95 transportation fee to the normal shredding rate and the per-job fees. With a drive this short, we will usually tell you to bring the boxes yourself. A pickup earns its fee in a few specific cases.
The first is an estate. Twenty banker’s boxes from a parent’s basement come to $434.90 at the counter, and $564.85 picked up. If nobody in the family can lift heavy boxes into a car twice, that $129.95 is well spent.
Another case is someone who can’t make the trip. An older resident without a car, or someone recovering from surgery, can book a pickup and hand the boxes to our driver at the door. Pickups always need an appointment, and we never promise same-day service.
Our pickup price assumes ground-level access. Boxes up a flight of stairs carry a handling fee, which we quote up front when you book. The paper goes into locked handling at your door and is shredded once it reaches our Tewksbury office.
Pelham’s transfer station and your paper
Pelham runs its own recycling center and transfer station at 74 Newcomb Field Parkway. The town limits it to Pelham residents, with a free vehicle sticker you get by showing your license and registration. It is closed Sundays and Mondays and open Tuesday through Saturday.
The town’s list of accepted recycling includes mixed paper, and that is the right place for junk mail, catalogs and newspapers. It is the wrong place for anything with your name and an account number on it. Mixed paper travels loose and unshredded until it is processed. A bank statement in that pile is as readable as the day it was mailed.
So split your paper at home. Junk mail and plain paper go to the transfer station on your next run. Statements, tax papers, medical bills and old checks go in the shred box for the drive down Route 38. Our post on what junk mail you should shred draws the line item by item.
The transfer station also takes electronics on its universal items list. That is fine for an old TV. For a computer or phone that held your banking passwords, have the drive destroyed instead. We quote media per item.
Which option fits your Pelham household
For nearly every Pelham home, the answer is the drop-off. The drive is short, there’s no appointment, and the paper is gone the same day. Here is how we would steer you.
| Your situation | Our pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 5 boxes | Drop-off | About $64.60 to $183.40, and about 25 minutes each way |
| 8 or 9 boxes | Drop-off, rounded up to 10 | Ten boxes at $20 each cost less than nine by the pound |
| An estate, 15 boxes or more, no one to lift | Zone 1 pickup | $129.95 once, and the boxes leave from your door |
| Papers you want to see destroyed | Witnessed | $1.99 per pound, $100 minimum, at our office |
| Junk mail and catalogs only | Pelham transfer station | Mixed paper recycling is fine for paper with nothing personal on it |
Witnessed shredding is rare for households, but it has its place. Some executors want to see a parent’s papers destroyed with their own eyes, and some people simply sleep better that way. You book a time, bring the boxes to our office, and stand at the shredder while they go through. Five boxes, about 150 pounds, cost $298.50 plus $34.90 in fees.
Our residential shredding page sets out every household option in one place. Running a business from home in Pelham? Frequently asked questions
How far is your office from Pelham?
About 11 miles from the Pelham Village Green, all on Route 38. Take Bridge Street south through Pelham and Dracut, follow Route 38 through Lowell on Nesmith and Rogers Streets, and stay on it as it becomes Main Street in Tewksbury. Plan on about 25 minutes, or 35 when Lowell traffic is heavy.
How much does Pelham NH home shredding cost per box?
One 30-pound banker’s box is about $64.60 at our counter, including the $34.90 per-job fees. Because those fees are fixed, the cost per box falls as you bring more: about $41.33 at three boxes, $36.68 at five and $23.49 at ten, where the $20 flat box rate starts.
What pickup zone is Pelham in?
Pelham is in Zone 1, with a transportation fee of $129.95 per pickup. You also pay the normal shredding rate and the $34.90 per-job fees. The price assumes ground-level access, and stairs add a handling fee we quote up front. Pickups are by appointment, never same-day.
Can I put bank statements in Pelham’s mixed paper recycling?
We wouldn’t. Mixed paper at the transfer station travels loose and unshredded, so anything with your name and account numbers stays readable. Recycle junk mail, catalogs and plain paper there. Put statements, tax records, medical bills and old checks in a shred box and bring them down Route 38.
Do I need an appointment to drop off?
No. Walk in Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA. We weigh your paper, you pay, and it is shredded the same business day. Only pickups and witnessed sessions need an appointment.
Do I have to remove staples and paper clips?
Leave them in. Staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders are fine. Remove three-ring binder hardware, the metal frames from hanging folders and anything that is not paper. Bag phones, hard drives and discs separately, because we quote media per item.
Is it worth waiting to bring more boxes at once?
Usually, yes. Every job carries the same $34.90 in per-job fees, so one box costs $64.60 but three boxes cost about $41.33 each. Keep a shred box all year, add the tax years you can let go in spring, and make one trip down Route 38.
Will I get proof my papers were destroyed?
Yes. Every job comes with a Certificate of Destruction, covered by the $14.95 HIPAA filing fee that is part of the $34.90 per-job fees. Executors in particular should keep it with the estate records as proof the deceased person’s statements and IDs were destroyed.
