Quick answer
New Hampshire Document Shredding handles document shredding for Derry at one office, 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA, about 25 miles and roughly 35 minutes down I-93 from the Derry Municipal Center. Drop-off costs 99 cents per pound plus $34.90 in per-job fees, so one 30-pound banker’s box comes to $64.60. A pickup from Derry is normally Zone 2, which adds a $159.95 transportation fee, and the zone is confirmed when you book.
Three ways a Derry household or office gets paper shredded
We do not have a storefront in Derry, or anywhere in New Hampshire. Every page we destroy goes through the shredder at our office on Route 38 in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, a short run south of the state line. What changes from customer to customer is how the paper gets there and who is standing beside it.
The first way is the one most Derry customers pick. You load the car, drive down I-93, and walk in during business hours. No appointment. We weigh the boxes on a scale you can read, you pay 99 cents a pound, and the paper is shredded the same business day. Our drop-off shredding page covers the counter routine in full.
A pickup is the second way. You book a date, a driver collects sealed boxes from your home or office in Derry, and the paper is shredded once it reaches Tewksbury. The shredding rate stays the same. You add a transportation fee for your zone, which for Derry is normally Zone 2 at $159.95. The details live on our off-site shredding page.
Then there is the witnessed session. You book a time, bring the boxes, and watch them go through the shredder at our office. It costs $1.99 a pound with a $100 minimum, and the certificate is signed in front of you. Most Derry households never need it. Some law offices, HR managers and executors do.
All three end the same way. Your paper is cross-cut shredded, the shred is recycled, and you receive a Certificate of Destruction that lists the date and the job. That certificate costs nothing extra beyond the per-job HIPAA filing fee, and it is the piece of paper an accountant, an estate attorney or an auditor may one day ask you to produce.
The drive from Derry to 1215 Main Street, Tewksbury
From the Derry Municipal Center at 14 Manning Street, the trip is about 25 miles. In light traffic it takes about 35 minutes. Nearly all of it is I-93, so the only judgment call is when you leave.
- Get onto Route 102. From downtown, head west on East Broadway, which becomes Route 102 and then Nashua Road. The I-93 southbound ramp is at Exit 4, under a mile from Manning Street. From East Derry, come in on East Derry Road and pick up Route 102 in the village.
- Take I-93 South. Follow the signs for Salem and Boston. You pass Windham and Salem and cross into Massachusetts at Methuen. This stretch is about 17 miles and needs no turns.
- Switch to I-495 South toward Lowell. In Andover, I-93 meets I-495. Keep right for I-495 South, signed for Lowell. You stay on 495 for under two miles.
- Exit for Route 133, Tewksbury and Andover. At the bottom of the ramp, bear toward Andover briefly, then turn left onto North Street. North Street runs about two miles south through Tewksbury.
- Turn left onto Main Street. North Street ends at Main Street, which is Route 38. Turn left. Our building is about a third of a mile along, at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115.
- Park out front. Parking is free and right by the door. Come inside first and staff will come out to help you unload.
Timing matters more than the route. Our counter opens at 10 a.m., which usually puts you on I-93 after the heaviest southbound commute has cleared. Leaving Derry mid-morning is the easy trip. Leaving at 4 p.m. on a Friday is not, and the counter closes at 5, so give yourself a cushion on the way down.
Missed the North Street turn? It happens. Stay on I-495 to the Route 38 exit, signed for Lowell and Tewksbury, and follow Main Street south about two and a half miles to our door. It adds a few minutes, nothing more. We wrote a separate Derry to Tewksbury drop-off guide with trip planning for anyone doing this for the first time.
What Derry customers pay, box by box
Every price on this page comes from the same short list. Drop-off and pickup both shred at 99 cents a pound when you bring fewer than 10 boxes. At 10 or more, you can pay a flat $15 per small box or $20 per large banker’s box instead. Every job then carries $34.90 in per-job fees: $14.95 for the HIPAA filing that covers your Certificate of Destruction and $19.95 for recycling the shred. A pickup adds the zone fee on top. The full list sits on our shredding rates page.
| What you bring | How it is priced | Shredding charge | Drop-off total | Zone 2 pickup total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 banker’s box (about 30 lb) | By the pound | $29.70 | $64.60 | $224.55 |
| 2 boxes (about 60 lb) | By the pound | $59.40 | $94.30 | $254.25 |
| 3 boxes (about 90 lb) | By the pound | $89.10 | $124.00 | $283.95 |
| 5 boxes (about 150 lb) | By the pound | $148.50 | $183.40 | $343.35 |
| 9 boxes (about 270 lb) | By the pound | $267.30 | $302.20 | $462.15 |
| 10 banker’s boxes | $20 per box | $200.00 | $234.90 | $394.85 |
| 20 banker’s boxes | $20 per box | $400.00 | $434.90 | $594.85 |
Look at the nine-box row and then the ten-box row. Nine full banker’s boxes, priced by the pound, cost more than ten boxes at the flat rate. That is not a typo. If your count lands at eight or nine full boxes, go through the closet one more time. A tenth box usually turns up, and it lowers the bill.
The weights are estimates. A banker’s box of loose letters and receipts can come in under 30 pounds, and a box packed tight with copy paper can run heavier. At drop-off you pay what the scale says, and you see the number before anything is shredded.
A worked example helps. Say a small Derry insurance office has fourteen banker’s boxes of expired policy files on the ground floor. At the flat rate that is $280.00, plus $34.90 in fees, or $314.90 if someone drives it down in two car trips. As a Zone 2 pickup it comes to $474.85, one visit, no lifting. Whether the $159.95 is worth it depends on who would otherwise give up a morning.
For one to five boxes from Derry, drive. The round trip takes about an hour and a half with the stop at the counter, and it saves $159.95. For twenty boxes in a second-floor office, book the pickup and let the driver do the carrying.
Why Derry is a Zone 2 pickup, and what that buys you
Pickup pricing works by distance from our Tewksbury office. Zone 1 covers the Tewksbury area and the New Hampshire border towns such as Salem, Pelham, Windham and Plaistow, at $129.95. Zone 2 covers greater Nashua and Manchester at $159.95. Zone 3 covers the Seacoast and points farther north at $199.95.
Derry falls in Zone 2 under that map. It sits one town back from the border, between Windham and Londonderry, and a driver’s round trip from Tewksbury is longer than a Salem run. We confirm the zone when you book, so the number on your quote is the number on your bill.
The zone fee covers the trip, not the shredding. Your paper is still priced at 99 cents a pound, or by the box at 10 and up, exactly as it would be at the counter. The $34.90 per-job fees apply once per job either way.
Two things can change a pickup price. Stairs or restricted access add a handling fee, which we quote up front when you describe the building. And the zone price assumes ground-level or elevator access. Our explainer on how pickup zones change the price walks through worked examples for towns in each zone.
| Zone | Example New Hampshire towns | Transportation fee | Plus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zone 1 | Salem, Pelham, Windham, Plaistow | $129.95 | Shredding charge and $34.90 per-job fees |
| Zone 2 | Greater Nashua and Manchester, including Derry | $159.95 | Shredding charge and $34.90 per-job fees |
| Zone 3 | The Seacoast and points farther north | $199.95 | Shredding charge and $34.90 per-job fees |
When you book a pickup from Derry, have four things ready. They make the quote exact and keep the driver’s visit short.
- The pickup address, including the unit or suite, so we can confirm the zone.
- A box count, and whether they are small boxes or full banker’s boxes.
- The access: ground floor, elevator, or stairs, and how many flights.
- A name and phone number for the person who will hand the boxes over and sign for them.
A pickup is never same day. You book a date, the driver comes, and the paper is shredded after it arrives at the office. If you have a hard deadline, such as a lease ending or a closing date on a house, book early and tell us the date you need to be out by.
Which option fits which Derry reader
Derry is a big town with a lot of different paper in it. The fourth largest municipality in the state, according to the town’s own figures, it runs from the downtown blocks around Broadway out to Beaver Lake and East Derry. Here is how the people we hear from most tend to sort themselves.
The household clearing a closet
Seven years of tax returns, old bank statements, a dead relative’s checkbooks. Usually two to six boxes. Drive them down on a weekday and keep the pickup fee. Our residential shredding page explains what to keep and what can go.
The home office on a side street
Hybrid workers and self-employed people in Derry print more than they think. Client files and old invoices do not belong in the town recycling bin. One trip a year usually clears it. Our Derry home shredding guide covers the household side in more depth.
The office on Route 102 or Route 28
Insurance agencies, property managers, accountants and small law offices along Derry’s two main state roads. Once you pass ten boxes, a Zone 2 pickup usually earns its fee. See our page on Derry business shredding for office cleanouts.
The medical or dental practice
Patient files, EOBs and old sign-in sheets carry protected health information. HIPAA asks you to safeguard that paper through disposal. We sign a Business Associate Agreement on request. Our medical shredding service page covers practice volume.
The executor or family member
Sorting a parent’s house in Derry is slow work. Set aside what the estate attorney and the final returns need, then shred the rest in one or two trips. If brothers and sisters want to see it gone, book a witnessed session and go together.
The landlord with old tenant files
Applications, credit reports and copies of IDs pile up fast. Consumer report information falls under the federal Disposal Rule, which names shredding as an approved method. A box or two at a time fits the drop-off counter well.
The Derry transfer station, recycling bins, and where shredding fits
Derry runs its own transfer station at 43 Transfer Lane, off Fordway. The town’s page lists it open Tuesday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and closed every Sunday and Monday. The gate locks promptly at 3:30, so the town asks you to arrive by 3:15 at the latest. Holiday closings are posted on the town’s 2026 schedule, including Veterans Day on November 11 and Thanksgiving Day on November 26.
On its website, Derry calls itself a recycling community, and the transfer station hours are posted under the words “mandatory recycling.” Each household can have two recycling bins, picked up at the transfer station with proof of Derry residency or a Town of Derry transfer station permit.
The station is built for Derry households. The town’s page says only household trash from Derry residents is accepted, with tight limits on what non-residents and commercial haulers can bring. That is worth knowing if you run a business in town and hoped to haul old files there.
Here is the part that matters for your privacy. A recycling bin is for junk flyers, newspapers and cereal boxes. It is not for bank statements, pay stubs, medical bills or anything with an account number, a Social Security number or a signature on it. Recycled paper travels loose through trucks and sorting lines, and nobody checks what is printed on it.
Shredding comes first, then recycling. When we shred your paper in Tewksbury, 100 percent of the shred is recycled, which is what the $19.95 environmental fee pays for. So you do not have to pick between privacy and recycling. You just do them in the right order.
- Recycle at home or at Transfer Lane: junk mail with no name, newspapers, catalogs, plain envelopes, cardboard.
- Shred with us: anything with an account number, Social Security number, date of birth, medical detail, signature or tax figure.
- Ask us first: hard drives, phones, USB sticks and CDs go in a separate bag and are quoted per item through our hard drive destruction service.
Free community shred events pop up around southern New Hampshire through the year, usually run by banks, credit unions or towns. They are a fine choice for a bag or two if the date suits you. For the other 50 weeks of the year, or for more paper than an event will take, the counter in Tewksbury is open every weekday.
Getting your Derry boxes ready
Most people overdo the prep. You do not need to pull every staple or paper clip. You do need to make sure nothing you want to keep goes in the box, and that nothing that is not paper is hiding in it.
Leave in
Staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders. Our shredder handles them. Pulling them out costs you an evening and saves nothing on the bill.
Take out
Three-ring binder hardware, hanging-folder frames and anything that is not paper. Pop the paper out of the binders and toss the rings in your own recycling.
Bag separately
Old hard drives, phones, thumb drives, CDs and tapes. Media is physically destroyed and quoted per item, so it goes in its own bag and we price it at the counter.
Use boxes you can lift. A banker’s box with a lid is ideal because it stacks and closes. Grocery bags split, and contractor bags are heavy and awkward to carry in from the lot. If you have a lot of loose paper, ask a liquor store or office supply shop for empty boxes. Our guide on how to prepare documents for shredding has a full checklist.
Before you tape a box shut, check for the things people regret. Original deeds, car titles, passports, birth certificates, stock certificates, the most recent tax return and any paperwork for an open insurance claim. Once paper goes into the shredder, nobody can get it back, and that is the whole point.
Derry’s neighbours and the rest of our map
Derry shares a long border with Londonderry, and plenty of people live in one town and work in the other. If your office is on the Londonderry side of Exit 4, our Londonderry shredding service page covers the business parks and the same Zone 2 pickup. To the east, our Hampstead shredding service page covers the towns between Derry and the Massachusetts line on that side.
Derry’s main ZIP code is 03038, and East Derry’s post office uses 03041. Both are in the same pickup zone. When you book online, the address you enter is what we use to confirm the zone and plan the driver’s route. For the full list of towns and how each one reaches us, see our service areas page.
One more Derry note. If you want to stand beside the shredder, our witnessed shredding sessions are booked in advance at the Tewksbury office. Book a time, bring the boxes, and stand where you can see the paper go in. It costs $1.99 a pound with a $100 minimum, plus the same $34.90 per-job fees.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a shredding drop-off in Derry, NH?
No. New Hampshire Document Shredding has no office, kiosk or drop box in Derry or anywhere in New Hampshire. Every job is shredded at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA, about 25 miles from the Derry Municipal Center by I-93. You can drive the boxes down on a weekday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., or book a pickup and we collect them from your Derry address.
How much does a pickup from Derry cost?
A pickup from Derry is normally Zone 2, which carries a $159.95 transportation fee. On top of that you pay the same shredding rate as drop-off, 99 cents per pound under 10 boxes or $15 to $20 per box at 10 or more, plus $34.90 in per-job fees. Ten banker’s boxes picked up from Derry come to $394.85. We confirm the zone when you book.
How long is the drive from Derry to Tewksbury?
About 25 miles and roughly 35 minutes in light traffic. Take Route 102 to I-93 South at Exit 4, then I-495 South toward Lowell, the Route 133 exit, North Street and a left onto Main Street, Route 38. Leaving Derry mid-morning usually misses the heaviest southbound commute, and our counter opens at 10 a.m.
Can I put shredded paper in my Derry recycling bin?
You do not need to. When we shred your paper in Tewksbury, the shred stays with us and 100 percent of it is recycled, which is what the $19.95 environmental fee covers. If you shred a little at home, check with the Derry transfer station before putting loose shred out, because the town’s recycling rules are set by the town, not by us.
Do I need to take staples and paper clips out?
No. Staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders can all stay in. Take out three-ring binder hardware, hanging-folder frames and anything that is not paper. Hard drives, phones and discs go in a separate bag because media is physically destroyed and quoted per item at the counter.
Will I get proof that my documents were destroyed?
Yes. Every job, whether drop-off, pickup or witnessed, comes with a Certificate of Destruction. It is covered by the $14.95 HIPAA filing fee that is part of the $34.90 per-job fees, so there is no separate charge. Keep it with your tax records or your practice’s compliance file.
Is it cheaper to bring 10 boxes than 9?
Usually, yes. Under 10 boxes we price by the pound, and nine full banker’s boxes at about 30 pounds each come to $267.30 before fees. At 10 boxes the flat rate applies, $20 per banker’s box, so ten boxes cost $200.00 before fees. If you are at eight or nine, find one more box.
Can a Derry medical office get a Business Associate Agreement?
Yes. Covered entities and business associates can request a Business Associate Agreement before the first job. Practices in Derry usually choose a Zone 2 pickup for a large purge and drop-off for smaller loads between purges. Every job comes with a Certificate of Destruction for your HIPAA file. Call (978) 636-0301 to set it up.
