Quick answer
New Hampshire Document Shredding handles Derry NH business shredding from one office, 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA, about 25 miles down I-93 from Route 102. A pickup costs the normal shredding rate (99 cents a pound, or $20 per banker’s box at 10 boxes or more) plus $34.90 in per-job fees and a transportation fee by zone, and your Derry address is assigned its zone when you book. Ten boxes dropped off at our counter come to $234.90, and every job gets a Certificate of Destruction. For homes, prices and the drive, see our main page on shredding service Derry NH.
Derry NH business shredding: the three ways it works
Every job we do, from a two-person insurance agency to a dental practice clearing a records room, is shredded in one place. That is our office on Route 38 in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. We have no office, kiosk or drop box in Derry, and nobody parks a shredder outside your building. What you choose is how the paper reaches our shredder.
For a business, that choice usually comes down to staff time. An owner who can spare a morning drives. A practice that can’t lose a front-desk person for half a day books a pickup. A law or counseling office that wants a staff member to see the paper destroyed books a witnessed session.
Pickup from your Derry office
Book a date, stack sealed boxes by the door, and we load them and take them to Tewksbury for shredding. You pay the normal rate plus a transportation fee for your zone. Our off-site shredding page covers the full process.
Drop-off at our counter
Walk in Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., no appointment. We weigh the boxes, you pay, and the paper is shredded the same business day. No zone fee, so it is the cheapest route for small loads.
Witnessed session
Book a time and watch your own files go through the shredder at our office. It costs $1.99 a pound with a $100 job minimum, plus the per-job fees. The certificate is signed while you stand there.
All three end with the same proof. The paper is cross-cut, the shred is baled and recycled, and you get a Certificate of Destruction that names the job and the date. That certificate is what your file needs when an auditor, a licensing board or a client asks how old records left the building.
Who we see from Derry and the Route 102 corridor
Derry sits where Route 28 crosses Route 102, with I-93 a few minutes west of downtown. Route 102 runs through the middle of town as East and West Broadway, then becomes Nashua Road as it heads toward the interstate at Exit 4. Much of Derry’s office and retail space lines that road or sits a block off it.
The Town of Derry promotes a Commerce Corridor district and the West Running Brook district for business growth, and lists them on its Doing Business page. Parkland Medical Center, the town’s hospital, sits on Parkland Drive just off West Broadway. Between them you get the mix of businesses that call us: professional offices downtown, medical and dental practices, retail and service shops on Route 28 and Route 102, and home-based businesses all over town.
Each of those businesses holds paper that one federal rule or another says must be destroyed properly. Here are the four we hear about most often at the counter, and the rule that applies to each.
Medical, dental and therapy
Charts, intake forms, lab requisitions and explanation of benefits letters. HIPAA requires safeguards for this paper right through disposal. A Business Associate Agreement is available on request.
Tax preparers and bookkeepers
The FTC treats tax preparation firms as financial institutions under the Safeguards Rule (16 CFR Part 314). Client files must be disposed of securely once there is no business or legal need to keep them.
Landlords and property managers
If you pull credit reports on tenants, the FTC Disposal Rule (16 CFR Part 682) says to burn, pulverize or shred them when you are done. The same applies to employers who run background checks.
Insurance and real estate
Policy files, closing packets and copies of IDs and bank statements. The rule here is plain risk. If a breach involves computerized personal data, New Hampshire’s notice law, RSA 359-C:20, applies.
Derry’s transfer station on Transfer Lane, off Fordway, is built around Derry households. The town says household trash is accepted from Derry residents only and that recycling is mandatory, and it lists no shredding service. A bin of client files does not belong in single-stream paper recycling anyway, where it travels loose and readable.
What Derry NH business shredding costs, box by box
Derry businesses pay the same shredding rate as everyone else. There is no town surcharge and no business premium. The only number that changes with your location is the transportation fee on a pickup. The table lists every charge, and our full shredding rates page has the same numbers.
| Charge | Price | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Shredding by weight | 99¢ per pound | Under 10 boxes, or loose paper and bags |
| Small box rate | $15 per box | 10 or more boxes |
| Large (banker’s) box rate | $20 per box | 10 or more boxes |
| HIPAA filing fee | $14.95 per job | Every job. Covers the Certificate of Destruction paperwork |
| Environmental fee | $19.95 per job | Every job. Covers recycling the shred |
| Pickup transportation | Zone 1 $129.95, Zone 2 $159.95, Zone 3 $199.95 | Pickups only. Your Derry address is zoned when you book |
| Stairs or restricted access | Handling fee, quoted up front | Pickups without ground-level or elevator access |
| Witnessed shredding | $1.99 per pound, $100 minimum | By appointment at our Tewksbury office |
| Hard drives and media | Quoted per item | Drives, tapes, discs, USB sticks, phones |
A standard banker’s box of office paper weighs about 30 pounds. Business jobs usually land at 10 boxes or more, which is where the flat box rate takes over. Ten large boxes are $200, plus $34.90 in per-job fees, for $234.90 at our counter. Twenty boxes come to $434.90. Forty boxes, a fair size for a small office’s first real purge, come to $834.90.
Look at how the gap between each pair of bars never moves. The transportation fee is charged once per pickup, not per box. On ten boxes it adds about two thirds to the bill. On sixty boxes it adds about an eighth. That is why we nudge small Derry jobs toward the counter and big ones toward a pickup.
Counter tip: under 10 boxes we charge by the pound, so nine banker’s boxes run about $267.30 before fees. Ten boxes on the flat rate are $200. If your stack is at eight or nine, add one more box of old paper and save money doing it.
The pickup zone for a Derry address
We price pickups by distance from our Tewksbury office. Zone 1 covers the Tewksbury area and the New Hampshire border towns such as Salem, Pelham, Windham and Plaistow. Zone 2 covers greater Nashua and Manchester. Zone 3 covers the Seacoast and points farther north. Derry sits one town back from the state line, so it is not one of the border towns, and we confirm the zone for your exact street address when you book.
The zone fee pays for the trip and nothing else. Your paper is still priced at 99 cents a pound, or by the box at 10 and up, exactly as it would be at our counter. The quote you get at booking is built from those same pieces, so there is nothing to guess at when the invoice arrives. Our page on how pickup zones are priced runs worked examples for each zone.
- Pickups are by appointment. We never promise a same-day visit, so book a few days ahead
- The zone price assumes ground-level or elevator access
- A second-floor office on Broadway with no elevator carries a handling fee, quoted before the day
- Boxes stay in locked handling from your door to the shredder
- No contract. Book once, or book the same week every quarter
Office cleanouts in Derry, start to finish
Most Derry business calls are cleanouts. A lease is ending on Route 102, two practices are merging, an owner is retiring, or a records room finally ran out of shelf space. The volume is a one-time spike, and the deadline is usually real. Here is how we run it, and what you can do to keep the bill where you expect it. For the longer version, read our guide to office cleanout shredding.
- Decide what can go. Check your retention schedule before anything leaves the building. The IRS says most tax records can go after 3 years and employment tax records after 4. Medical, legal and licensing rules can be longer, so ask whoever owns those records.
- Count the boxes. A rough count is enough. We price the job on what actually arrives, by the pound under 10 boxes and by the box at 10 and up.
- Book and describe the building. Book online or call (978) 636-0301. Tell us the address, the box count, the floor, and whether there is an elevator or a loading door. We confirm the zone and any handling fee then.
- Pack it the easy way. Leave staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders in. Pull out three-ring binder hardware, hanging-folder frames and anything that is not paper. Bag hard drives and phones separately.
- Hand the boxes over. Have the person responsible for the records meet the driver and keep the booking confirmation. The boxes go into locked handling and straight back to Tewksbury.
- File the certificate. Your Certificate of Destruction arrives with the job. Keep it with the retention log so the record of what was destroyed, and when, stays with the business.
Our shredding pickup checklist is a one-page version of these steps you can hand to whoever is packing. If the cleanout includes old computers or a server, the drives are physically destroyed and quoted per item. Our hard drive destruction page explains how to bag them.
One honest note on timing. A cleanout tied to a lease date should be booked as soon as you know the date. Pickups need an appointment, and the end of a month is when everyone moves.
Medical and dental offices in Derry
Health care paper is the most sensitive load we pick up in Derry, and it comes with the clearest rules. HIPAA’s Privacy Rule requires a covered entity to have appropriate administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect health information, at 45 CFR 164.530(c). That duty does not end when a chart is retired. HHS guidance says shredding paper so it cannot be read or reconstructed is an acceptable way to dispose of it.
The Security Rule adds a disposal standard at 45 CFR 164.310(d)(2)(i). It requires policies for the final disposition of electronic health information and the hardware or media it is stored on. That is the line that covers the old workstation in the back office and the external drive full of scanned charts.
When a vendor handles your PHI, HIPAA expects a Business Associate Agreement, under 45 CFR 164.502(e) and 164.504(e). We sign one on request. Our medical shredding service page covers the full HIPAA side for New Hampshire practices.
Practices tend to use us in two rhythms. Small monthly or quarterly loads from a locked console go down I-93 with whoever runs the errand, because a few boxes cost far less at the counter. The yearly purge of retired charts is a pickup, because nobody wants a clinical assistant carrying forty boxes to a car. If a provider or practice manager needs to see the destruction, a witnessed session at our office does that.
Before any chart goes in a box, check your own retention rules. Federal and state rules, your malpractice carrier and your payer contracts can each set a minimum. Our guide to HIPAA shredding requirements walks through what to keep and how to document what you destroy.
When a Derry business should just drive it down
A pickup is not always the right call, and we will tell you so on the phone. If you have five boxes and someone free on a Tuesday morning, the drive saves you the zone fee outright. From the Derry Municipal Center at 14 Manning Street, it is about 25 miles and roughly 35 minutes outside rush hour.
The route is simple. Take Route 102 west from downtown to I-93 at Exit 4 and head south past Windham and Salem into Massachusetts. In Andover, keep right for I-495 south toward Lowell and get off after about two miles at Route 133 for Tewksbury and Andover. Follow North Street a little over two miles, then turn left onto Main Street. Our building is a short way down, with free parking at the door. There is a turn-by-turn version on our Derry to Tewksbury drop-off page.
- We open at 10 a.m., which keeps you clear of the morning I-93 rush
- Staff will bring a cart out and help unload
- You leave with a receipt, and the paper is shredded the same business day
- Bring 10 or more boxes and the flat box rate applies at the counter too
Our rule of thumb for Derry offices: for five boxes, drive. For forty, book the pickup. In between, compare the zone fee with what a staff member’s morning on I-93 actually costs you.
Pickup, drop-off or witnessed: which fits your Derry business
This is how we would steer a Derry office manager who called with a stack of boxes and a deadline. Your exact quote depends on the zone we confirm for your address.
| Your situation | Our pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 9 boxes, someone can drive | Drop-off | One box is about $64.60, five about $183.40. No zone fee |
| 10 to 20 boxes, someone can drive | Drop-off | $234.90 for ten, $434.90 for twenty, fees included |
| Office cleanout, 30 boxes or more | Pickup | One zone fee spread over many boxes, and no staff lifting |
| Upstairs office, no elevator | Pickup, with handling quoted | We price the stairs before the day, not after |
| Clinical or legal files someone must see destroyed | Witnessed | $1.99 per pound, $100 minimum, certificate signed in front of you |
| Old computers, drives, phones | Bag separately | Physically destroyed and quoted per item |
Witnessed shredding costs more per pound because a staff member runs your material while you watch. Five boxes, about 150 pounds, come to $298.50 plus $34.90 in fees. Read how a session works on our witnessed shredding page. Neighboring businesses get the same options, and our post on Londonderry NH business shredding covers the airport business parks next door. Whatever you choose, keep the certificate of destruction with your records.
Frequently asked questions
What pickup zone is Derry in?
Derry is not one of the New Hampshire border towns we list in Zone 1, and we confirm the zone for your exact Derry address when you book. The fees are $129.95 for Zone 1, $159.95 for Zone 2 and $199.95 for Zone 3. The zone fee is added once per pickup, on top of the shredding rate and the $34.90 per-job fees.
How much does Derry NH business shredding cost for 20 boxes?
Twenty large banker’s boxes are $400 at the flat box rate, plus $34.90 in per-job fees, so $434.90 if you bring them to our Tewksbury counter. A pickup adds one transportation fee for your zone. At the Zone 2 rate of $159.95, for example, the same job would total $594.85.
Do you shred on site at our Derry office?
No. We do not bring a shredder to your building. Pickup means we load your sealed boxes, keep them in locked handling, and shred them at our office at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA. If someone needs to see the destruction, book a witnessed session at that office.
Will you sign a Business Associate Agreement for a Derry medical practice?
Yes. We sign a Business Associate Agreement on request for HIPAA covered entities and business associates. Every job also comes with a Certificate of Destruction, covered by the $14.95 HIPAA filing fee that is part of the $34.90 per-job fees. Keep both with your compliance records.
Can you pick up from a second-floor office on Broadway?
We can. The zone price assumes ground-level or elevator access. Stairs or restricted access add a handling fee, and we quote it up front when you describe the building at booking. Tell us the floor, whether there is an elevator, and where the boxes will be waiting.
How soon can you pick up from a Derry business?
Pickups are by appointment and we never promise same-day service. Book as soon as you know your date, especially for a cleanout tied to a lease ending or a move at the end of a month. If you cannot wait, drive the boxes down any weekday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Do we need to remove staples and folders first?
No. Leave staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders in. Remove three-ring binder hardware, the metal frames from hanging folders and anything that is not paper. Put hard drives, discs and phones in a separate bag, because media is quoted per item.
Is a pickup worth it for a few boxes?
Usually not. The transportation fee is the same for one box or sixty. One box at our counter is about $64.60, and a pickup would add at least $129.95. For a handful of boxes, send someone down I-93. Pickup pays off on cleanouts and on loads nobody on staff should be lifting.
