Quick answer
New Hampshire Document Shredding serves Milford from its only shredding location, 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA, about 33 miles from Union Square by Route 101A, the Everett Turnpike, Route 3 and I-495. You can drive your boxes down any weekday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and pay 99 cents a pound plus $34.90 in per-job fees, or book a pickup, which for Milford is normally Zone 2 at $159.95 on top of the same rates (confirmed when you book). Both come with a Certificate of Destruction, and both end in cross-cut document shredding at our office.
What a 33-mile trip changes for a Milford customer
We shred in one building, our office on Route 38 in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. We have no office, kiosk or drop box in Milford or anywhere else in New Hampshire, and we do not shred at the curb. So every Milford job comes down to one decision: do you bring the paper to us, or do we come and get it?
In Pelham or Salem that decision almost makes itself, because the drive is short. Milford is different. The round trip is close to 70 miles and, with unloading, most of a morning. That pushes the break-even point for a pickup a lot lower than in the border towns, and it rewards planning one bigger trip over several small ones.
One planned drop-off
Save your shredding up, load it all at once, and drive down on a weekday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. You pay 99 cents a pound, or $15 per small box and $20 per large box at 10 or more. Paper you drop off is shredded that same business day. Here is how drop-off shredding works at the counter.
A Zone 2 pickup
Milford normally falls in our Zone 2, the band that takes in greater Nashua and Manchester. The transportation fee is $159.95 on top of the regular shredding rates, and we confirm the zone for your address at booking. Our page on off-site shredding covers each step.
A witnessed session
If you need to watch the paper go through the shredder, book a time at our office. It is $1.99 a pound with a $100 job minimum, plus the per-job fees, and the certificate is signed in front of you. From Milford, it is worth pairing with a large load so the drive pays off.
Every route ends in the same place. The paper is cross-cut at our office, the shred is baled and recycled, and you get a Certificate of Destruction. The trade-off in Milford is mostly about your time against a fixed fee, and the next sections put numbers on both.
The drive from Milford to 1215 Main Street
From Union Square and the Oval, the direct way is east on Nashua Street, which is Route 101A. It runs through Amherst into Nashua, where it is called Amherst Street, and meets the Everett Turnpike. From there you head south, the turnpike turns into Route 3 at the Massachusetts line, and you follow it to I-495 in Chelmsford.
- Head east on Route 101A. From downtown Milford, take Nashua Street east. Route 101A carries you through Amherst’s shopping stretch and into Nashua, where the same road is Amherst Street.
- Get on the Everett Turnpike south. Follow the signs for the turnpike south toward Massachusetts. It is about 15 miles of highway from here to I-495.
- Stay on Route 3 into Chelmsford. At the state line the turnpike becomes Route 3. Keep going through Tyngsborough to the big interchange with I-495.
- Take I-495 north toward Lawrence. Follow I-495 for about four miles, past Lowell, to the Route 38 exit for Tewksbury.
- Go south on Main Street. At the bottom of the ramp, head south on Route 38. Our building is about two and a half miles down at 1215 Main Street, with free parking out front and help unloading.
The whole trip is about 33 miles. Without traffic it takes 50 minutes to an hour. Route 101A through Amherst and the Nashua end of the trip can be slow at commuting times, and Route 3 and I-495 both back up on weekday rush hours. Leaving Milford around 10 puts you on the road after the morning crush and in our lot before lunch.
Much of this trip is shared with Nashua drivers. If you want the turn-by-turn detail for the turnpike and I-495 part, our Nashua to Tewksbury drop-off directions cover it with timing tips.
What a shredding service in Milford NH costs
Milford pays the same shredding rate as every other town we serve. The only number that is about Milford is the pickup fee, and you pay that only if we drive up. Every rate here matches our shredding rates page.
| Charge | Price | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Shredding by weight | 99¢ per pound | Under 10 boxes, loose paper and bags |
| Small box rate | $15 per box | 10 or more boxes |
| Large banker’s box rate | $20 per box | 10 or more boxes |
| HIPAA filing fee | $14.95 per job | Every job. Pays for the Certificate of Destruction paperwork |
| Environmental fee | $19.95 per job | Every job. Pays for recycling the shred |
| Zone 2 transportation | $159.95 per pickup | Normal zone for a Milford address, confirmed at booking |
| Witnessed shredding | $1.99 per pound, $100 minimum | By appointment at our Tewksbury office |
| Hard drives and media | Quoted per item | Drives, tapes, discs, USB sticks, phones |
A standard banker’s box of paper weighs about 30 pounds, which is the figure we use to estimate. One box at the counter runs about $29.70 plus $34.90 in per-job fees, so roughly $64.60. Five boxes, about 150 pounds, come to $148.50 plus $34.90, or about $183.40. The scale sets the final number, and dense files weigh more than loose paper.
The pickup bar always sits $159.95 above the drop-off bar. On one box that is more than three times the bill. On twenty boxes it is about a third more. That fixed fee is why the size of your job matters so much in Milford.
If you are driving down anyway, bring everything. The per-job fees of $34.90 apply once per job, not per box. Two trips with five boxes each cost $69.80 in fees and two long drives. One trip with ten boxes costs $34.90 in fees and gets the flat $20 box rate.
When a Zone 2 pickup pays for itself in Milford
Think of the $159.95 pickup fee as the price of your round trip. From Milford that trip is close to 70 miles and, with loading, unloading and the counter, two hours or more of someone’s day. The question is simply whether that time, fuel and lifting is worth more to you than $159.95.
| Boxes | Drop-off total | Zone 2 pickup total | What the pickup adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $64.60 | $224.55 | Almost 3.5 times the bill. Drive it, or wait and batch it |
| 5 | $183.40 | $343.35 | Close call for a busy office. For a household, drive |
| 10 | $234.90 | $394.85 | Pickup often wins if the driver bills by the hour |
| 20 | $434.90 | $594.85 | Pickup usually wins. Twenty boxes is a heavy car |
Our rule for Milford: one or two boxes, save them up. Three to nine boxes from a household, drive them down on a day you have errands anyway. Ten or more from an office, or anything that has to come down stairs, book the pickup and keep your staff where they are useful.
- Count and estimate. Count banker’s boxes and multiply by about 30 pounds, or use the box rate if you have 10 or more.
- Book online or call. Use the booking form or call (978) 636-0301 with your Milford address, the box count and anything that is not paper.
- Confirm the zone and access. We confirm the zone for your exact address. The $159.95 assumes ground-level or elevator access, and stairs or restricted access add a handling fee we quote up front.
- Stage the boxes. Close them up near a door. Staples, clips and folders can stay. Binder rings, hanging-folder frames and anything that is not paper come out.
- We drive them to Tewksbury. The boxes stay in locked handling and are shredded after they reach our office. Pickups run by appointment, so book a few days ahead.
Twenty banker’s boxes from a Milford office come to $400 in box charges, $34.90 in fees and $159.95 for Zone 2, so $594.85. For more on how the zones are drawn, see our guide to shredding pickup zones.
What every Milford job includes
Drop-off, pickup or witnessed, the process and the paperwork stay the same. These numbers do not change with the service you choose.
- Cross-cut shredding at our Tewksbury office, not in a parking lot
- Locked handling and a documented chain of custody from your building or our counter to the shredder
- A Certificate of Destruction on every job at no charge beyond the HIPAA filing fee
- A Business Associate Agreement on request for HIPAA covered entities and business associates
- All of the shredded paper recycled
- No long-term contract, so a once-a-year pickup is fine
Milford manufacturers, tech firms and offices
The town describes itself as the hub of the region for living, business and shopping, and its own site lists manufacturers, IT and information firms, and service providers among the businesses here. Those are exactly the kinds of employers that pile up personnel files, payroll records, customer contracts and retired computers.
Most of them do not need us every week. They need a clean, documented way to clear a file room once or twice a year, and that is where a Zone 2 pickup fits. One appointment, one fee, every box gone, and a certificate for the file.
Manufacturers
Old personnel files, I-9 copies, payroll and supplier contracts. Employment tax records stay at least 4 years. For a full file room, see our page on office cleanout shredding.
IT and tech firms
Paper is only half of it. Hard drives, tapes and phones are physically destroyed and quoted per item. Our hard drive destruction page explains how.
Medical, dental and therapy
HIPAA expects safeguards right through disposal. Ask for a BAA when you book. The medical shredding service page covers the rules.
Real estate, insurance and finance
Credit reports fall under the FTC Disposal Rule, 16 CFR Part 682. Tax preparers fall under the GLBA Safeguards Rule, 16 CFR Part 314. Both point to proper destruction.
On the health side, the HIPAA Privacy Rule asks covered entities to keep appropriate safeguards in place, 45 CFR 164.530(c), and the Security Rule asks for disposal policies for media holding health information, 45 CFR 164.310(d)(2)(i). Cross-cut shredding with a certificate on file covers the paper side, and drives go in their own bag for physical destruction.
New Hampshire adds its own reason to handle old drives with care. Under RSA 359-C:20, a business that owns or licenses computerized personal information has to look into a suspected breach and notify the people affected if misuse is likely or cannot be ruled out. A drive that is physically destroyed cannot leak.
Shredding for Milford households
For a Milford household, the smartest plan is one trip a year. Keep a shred box in a closet, drop anything with an account number or signature into it, and bring it all down together after tax season. You pay the $34.90 per-job fees once, and the hour each way feels a lot more worth it with a full trunk.
Three or four boxes at once come to roughly $124 to $154 at the counter, fees included. If you want to pair the trip with errands, Nashua’s shopping areas sit right on the way down Route 101A and the turnpike. That keeps the outing to one morning.
Estates are where pickup earns its keep for families. An executor emptying a Milford house with twenty boxes of a parent’s papers saves the loading, the drive and the lifting for $159.95. Our residential shredding page has more household examples and what to keep.
Before anything goes in the shred box, check how long the IRS wants it kept. In most cases that is 3 years. It is 6 years if you left out income worth more than 25 percent of what you reported, and 7 years if you claimed a loss from worthless securities or a bad debt deduction. If you never filed, or filed a fraudulent return, keep the records indefinitely.
| Item in the box | Leave it in | Take it out |
|---|---|---|
| Staples and paper clips | Yes | |
| Binder clips and rubber bands | Yes | |
| File folders | Yes | |
| Three-ring binder hardware | Yes | |
| Hanging-folder metal frames | Yes | |
| Hard drives, discs, USB sticks, phones | Yes, bag separately, quoted per item |
Getting the prep right matters more when you drive 33 miles. Nothing slows a counter visit like a box of three-ring binders. Our guide on how to prepare documents for shredding has a longer checklist.
What Milford’s transfer station handles
Milford runs its Recycling and Transfer Station at 76 North River Road. It is open to Milford residents only, and a permit is required. The permit is free, and you can get one by calling the station or stopping at the scale house during open hours.
| Day | Residential hours | Commercial hours |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Closed | Closed |
| Tuesday | 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. | 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. |
| Wednesday | 8 a.m. to noon | 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. |
| Thursday | 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. | 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. |
| Friday | 8 a.m. to noon | 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. |
| Saturday | 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. | No commercial |
| Sunday | Closed | Closed |
Those are the hours the town listed when we checked in November 2026. Monday holidays shift to Tuesday, so check the town page before a holiday week. The station also lists a Still Good Shed with its own, shorter hours.
The town’s transfer station page covers hours and permits. It does not describe a document shredding service or a shred day, so for paper with personal information, shred it before it goes anywhere near a recycling bin. Recycling takes paper as it comes. A statement that goes in whole can come out whole. If you are not sure what the station takes, ask at the scale house.
Milford’s ZIP code is 03055. Pickups there normally fall in our Zone 2, and we confirm the zone for your exact address at booking. Addresses near the town lines are the ones where that check matters most.
Free shred days do turn up in the region, usually run by banks, credit unions or civic groups, often with box limits. If the date fits, use one. When it does not, the paid option is there all year. Our list of shred events keeps track of what we know about.
Which option fits your Milford job
Here is how we would steer a Milford caller. The answer turns on box count, who would make the drive, and whether you need to see the paper destroyed.
| Your situation | Our pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 or 2 boxes from home | Save them, then drop off | A 66-mile round trip for $64.60 of shredding is a lot of driving |
| 3 to 9 boxes from home | One drop-off trip, rounded up to 10 if close | Fees once, box rate at 10 |
| 10 to 20 boxes from an office | Zone 2 pickup | $159.95 against two or more hours of staff time |
| Estate, stairs or no one to lift | Zone 2 pickup | We load. Handling fee for stairs quoted up front |
| Files you must see destroyed | Witnessed, with a big load | $1.99 per pound, $100 minimum, certificate signed in front of you |
| Old drives and phones | Add to any job, bagged | Quoted per item, physically destroyed |
The short version for Milford: batch your paper, and let the fixed fee decide. A household with a few boxes should make one well-planned trip. An office with a file room should book the pickup and not think twice.
A witnessed session is the one case where the drive is part of the point. You come to see your material shredded and sign off on it. Five boxes of closed client files, about 150 pounds, come to about $298.50 plus $34.90 in fees. Read about witnessed shredding before you book.
Nearby towns face a similar trip. Our page on document shredding in Brookline NH covers Milford’s neighbor to the south, and document shredding in Merrimack NH covers the turnpike town a little farther east, past Amherst. Every town we serve is listed by zone on our service areas page.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a shredding service in Milford NH cost for a pickup?
A Milford pickup is normally Zone 2, with a $159.95 transportation fee, confirmed when you book. On top of that you pay 99 cents a pound under 10 boxes, or $15 and $20 per box at 10 or more, plus $34.90 in per-job fees. Twenty banker’s boxes picked up in Milford come to about $594.85 in total.
How long is the drive from Milford to Tewksbury?
From Union Square it is about 33 miles. Take Route 101A east through Amherst into Nashua, the Everett Turnpike south, which becomes Route 3 in Massachusetts, then I-495 north toward Lawrence and Route 38 south to 1215 Main Street. Plan on 50 minutes to an hour without heavy traffic.
Is there a shredding drop-off in Milford?
Not from us. We shred only at our office at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA, and we have no office, kiosk or drop box anywhere in New Hampshire. Milford customers either drive down with their boxes or book a pickup. We do not shred at your address or from the curb.
When does pickup make more sense than driving from Milford?
Once you have about ten boxes, or anything that has to come down stairs, the $159.95 pickup usually beats a 66-mile round trip plus loading. For one or two boxes, save them up and drive later. For three to nine boxes from a household, one planned drop-off trip is normally the better deal.
Does the Milford transfer station shred documents?
The town’s Recycling and Transfer Station page at 76 North River Road lists hours and a free resident permit, but no document shredding service. Recycling takes paper as it comes, so anything with account numbers or signatures should be shredded before it leaves your house. Our Tewksbury counter shreds it for 99 cents a pound.
Do I need to remove staples and paper clips?
No. Staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders can stay in. Please remove three-ring binder hardware, the metal frames from hanging folders, and anything that is not paper. Drives, discs and phones go in a separate bag and are quoted per item. Good prep matters more after a long drive.
Can a Milford medical or dental practice get a BAA?
Yes. We sign a Business Associate Agreement on request for HIPAA covered entities and business associates, and every job comes with a Certificate of Destruction. Given the distance, a scheduled Zone 2 pickup once or twice a year can be easier than sending staff down to Tewksbury with small loads.
Is it cheaper to bring 10 boxes than 9?
Usually. Under 10 boxes we charge by weight, so nine banker’s boxes at about 30 pounds each run about $267.30 before fees. At 10 or more the flat rate applies, $20 per large box, so ten boxes are $200 before fees. From Milford, filling that tenth box before the trip is an easy saving.
What paperwork do I get?
Every job, drop-off, pickup or witnessed, comes with a Certificate of Destruction. It is covered by the $14.95 HIPAA filing fee, which is part of the $34.90 per-job fees. Keep it with your retention records so you can show when and how the paper was destroyed. In a witnessed session it is signed in front of you.
