Shredding service in Hampstead NH, two ways down to Tewksbury

Hampstead is about 24 miles from our shredder, with a choice of I-93 or I-495 to get there. This page covers both routes, what a pickup costs in either zone, what the town’s 2026 transfer station closure means for your paper, and which option we would pick for your job.

Quick answer

New Hampshire Document Shredding shreds Hampstead paper at one place, its office at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA, about 24 miles from the Hampstead town office by I-93 or I-495. Drop-off costs 99 cents a pound (or $15 and $20 per box at 10 or more) plus $34.90 in per-job fees. A pickup adds a transportation fee of $129.95 in Zone 1 or $159.95 in Zone 2, and we confirm which zone your Hampstead address falls in when you book. Every job ends in cross-cut document shredding and a Certificate of Destruction.

Where Hampstead fits on our map

We shred in one building, our office on Route 38 in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. We have no office, kiosk or drop box in Hampstead or anywhere else in New Hampshire, and we never shred in your driveway. Hampstead paper either rides down to us in your car or in ours.

Hampstead sits in an in-between spot. It is not one of the border towns like Salem, Pelham or Plaistow that are plainly in our Zone 1, and it is nowhere near as far as the Seacoast. That is why we confirm the pickup zone for each Hampstead address when you book, and why this page shows both zone prices side by side.

Drive it down

Walk in Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., no appointment needed. We weigh it, you pay 99 cents a pound or the flat box rate at 10 boxes and up, and the paper is shredded that same business day. Read how drop-off shredding works when you arrive.

Book a pickup

We come to your Hampstead address, load the boxes and shred them at our office. The fee is $129.95 if your address is in Zone 1 or $159.95 if it is in Zone 2, plus the regular rates. Our page on off-site shredding explains the full process.

Watch it shredded

A witnessed session at our office costs $1.99 a pound with a $100 job minimum, plus the per-job fees. You stand by the shredder while your own paper goes through, and the certificate is signed in front of you. It suits legal, clinical and estate files.

Each one finishes the same way. The paper is cross-cut, the shred is baled and recycled, and you get a Certificate of Destruction for your records. The choice is about cost, time, and whether you need to see it happen.

Two routes from Hampstead to 1215 Main Street

Hampstead is one of the few towns we serve with two honest routes that take about the same time. One heads west to I-93 in Salem. The other heads south through Atkinson to I-495 at the Haverhill line. Both run about 24 to 25 miles from the town office at 11 Main Street, and both meet up on I-495 in Andover before the last few miles into Tewksbury.

Hampstead to Tewksbury, two routes Hampstead town office to 1215 Main Street, Tewksbury Start Hampstead A: Route 111 west Salem I-93 south B: Route 121 south via Atkinson Haverhill line I-495 south I-495 in Andover 1215 Tewksbury Main Street Either route: about 24 to 25 miles Typically 40 to 50 minutes
Route A runs west on Route 111 to I-93 in Salem. Route B runs south on Route 121 through Atkinson to I-495 at the Haverhill line. Both join I-495 south toward Lowell for the last stretch into Tewksbury. Distances rounded.
  1. Pick your highway. For Route A, head west on Route 111 and follow the signs toward Salem and I-93 south. For Route B, head south on Route 121 through Atkinson and pick up I-495 south toward Lawrence and Lowell at the Haverhill line.
  2. Get to I-495 south. On Route A, take I-93 south over the state line to the I-495 interchange and follow I-495 south toward Lowell. On Route B, you are already on it.
  3. Leave I-495 in Tewksbury. Most map apps send you off at the Route 133 exit for Tewksbury and Andover, then down North Street to Main Street. Staying on to the Route 38 exit and heading south on Main Street works just as well.
  4. Find 1215 Main Street. Our building is on Main Street, which is Route 38. Look for Unit 115.
  5. Park and unload. Parking out front is free. Tell us you have boxes and someone will come out with a cart to help.

On a quiet day either route takes about 40 minutes, and 50 is a fair number when the highways are busy. Route A is a touch shorter. Route B avoids the I-93 traffic around Salem and suits anyone living in the southern half of town. If one of them is backed up, take the other. That is the advantage Hampstead has.

Our hours help with timing. We open at 10 a.m., after the morning rush on I-93 and I-495, and the hour before 5 p.m. is the one to skip. Leave Hampstead around 10:30 and you will be in our lot before lunch.

What a shredding service in Hampstead NH costs in each zone

Hampstead pays the same shredding rate as every town we serve. The only number that changes with your address is the pickup fee, and only when we come to you. Every rate here matches our shredding rates page.

To estimate, figure about 30 pounds for a full banker’s box. One box at the counter is about $29.70 plus $34.90 in per-job fees, so roughly $64.60. Five boxes are about 150 pounds, $148.50 plus $34.90, or about $183.40. The scale has the last word, and tightly packed files weigh more.

Hampstead cost by box count Hampstead cost by box count Drop-off in Tewksbury Zone 1 pickup (+$129.95) Zone 2 pickup (+$159.95) $200 $400 $600 $64.60 $194.55 $224.55 1 box $183.40 $313.35 $343.35 5 boxes $234.90 $364.85 $394.85 10 boxes $434.90 $564.85 $594.85 20 boxes Banker’s boxes at about 30 lb. Totals include the $34.90 per-job fees.
Estimated totals for banker’s boxes at about 30 lb each. One and five boxes at 99¢ per pound, 10 and 20 boxes at $20 per large box. Every bar includes the $34.90 per-job fees. Pickup adds $129.95 in Zone 1 or $159.95 in Zone 2, confirmed at booking.

The two pickup bars sit $30 apart at every size, which is the full difference between the zones. The bigger gap is between driving and either pickup. On one box, a pickup triples or more than triples the bill. On twenty boxes it adds roughly 30 to 37 percent. Whichever zone you land in, the job size matters more than the zone.

Counter tip: if you are at eight or nine boxes, fill a tenth. Nine banker’s boxes by weight run about $267.30 before fees. Ten at the $20 flat rate cost $200. You save about $67 and clear out one more box.

Zone 1 or Zone 2: how a Hampstead pickup gets priced

Our zones follow driving distance from Tewksbury. Zone 1 covers the Tewksbury area and the New Hampshire border towns. Zone 2 covers greater Nashua and Manchester. Hampstead sits a town or two in from the border, so we do not guess. We confirm your zone from your address when you book, and you know the fee before anyone drives anywhere.

  1. Book online or call. Use the booking form or call (978) 636-0301 with your Hampstead street address, a rough box or bag count, and anything that is not paper.
  2. We confirm the zone and the fee. You hear back with Zone 1 at $129.95 or Zone 2 at $159.95. That price assumes ground-level or elevator access. A handling fee applies for stairs or restricted access, and we quote it up front.
  3. Stage the boxes. Close them and stack them by the door or in the garage. Staples, paper clips and folders can stay. Pull three-ring binder hardware, hanging-folder frames and anything that is not paper.
  4. We load and drive to Tewksbury. Your boxes stay in locked handling and are shredded after they reach our office. Pickups are by appointment, so book ahead.
  5. Keep the certificate. The Certificate of Destruction comes with the job. File it with your records.

Twenty banker’s boxes picked up in Hampstead come to $400 for the boxes and $34.90 in per-job fees, plus $129.95 in Zone 1 for $564.85, or $159.95 in Zone 2 for $594.85. Our guide to shredding pickup zones shows how the bands are drawn.

Hampstead trash and recycling in 2026, and where paper fits

Hampstead does most of its trash and recycling at the curb. The town’s page points residents to Pinard Waste Systems for curbside service, with pickup problems handled through Casella. Each single-family home gets a town-issued 65-gallon blue recycling cart, and recycling is unlimited as long as it fits with the lid closed. Trash is capped at 60 gallons a week for a single-family home.

The bigger change this year is the Kent Farm Transfer Station. In a notice dated March 24, 2026, the town said that because of budget cuts the station would not open in 2026, with the hope of reopening in 2027. In a normal year it opens on the second Saturday of the month from April through November.

The closure means no swap shop, no drop-off for bulky items, appliances, tires or electronics at Kent Farm this year, and the cardboard container at the public works yard on Stage Road was removed too. The town lists the Raymond and Derry transfer stations for some bulky items, with limits for non-residents.

One exception is on the calendar. The town listed Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. as a brush and leaves day at Kent Farm, with no sticker needed. It takes brush and leaves only. Paper and electronics still have nowhere to go there.

What this means for your paper: with Kent Farm closed, almost everything ends up in the blue cart at the end of the driveway. That is the right place for junk mail and catalogs. It is the wrong place for bank statements, tax returns, pay stubs and medical bills, which go into the cart whole and sit by the road until the truck comes. Shred those first.

Electronics are part of the same problem. With no electronics drop-off at Kent Farm in 2026, old laptops and phones tend to pile up in closets. If they hold personal data, bag them and bring them with your paper. We physically destroy drives and phones and quote them per item, as described on our hard drive destruction page.

Hampstead mail uses ZIP code 03841, and East Hampstead uses 03826. Whichever one is on your envelope, the zone for a pickup is set by your street address and confirmed at booking.

Free community shred days pop up around the region, run by banks, credit unions or civic groups, often with box limits and long lines. When we checked the town site in November 2026, Hampstead did not list one. Our page on shred events tracks the ones we know about.

Shredding for Hampstead households

Hampstead is a town of houses, and most of the Hampstead paper we see comes from them. Boxes of old returns, years of bank and brokerage statements, medical paperwork, and the file cabinet from a business that closed long ago. In a year when the transfer station is shut, it tends to sit in the basement a little longer than it should.

For a household with a few boxes, driving down is the clear winner. Three boxes come to about $124 at the counter, fees included. Either route gets you here in under an hour, so you can make a morning of it and be home for lunch.

A middle-aged son and his elderly mother look through old paperwork together at a kitchen island, with a cardboard box at their feet
Sorting a parent’s papers is slow. The shredding part does not have to be.

Before anything leaves the house, check what you still need. The IRS says most tax records need to be kept 3 years. Keep them 6 years if you left out income worth more than 25 percent of what you reported, and 7 years if you claimed a loss from worthless securities or a bad debt deduction. Employment tax records stay at least 4 years. If you never filed, keep the records indefinitely.

Estates change the math. An executor clearing a Hampstead house with twenty boxes of a parent’s records should book the pickup. You skip the loading and the trip, and you are left with one certificate for the estate file. Our guides to residential shredding and shredding after a death in NH walk through what to keep first.

Hampstead businesses and home offices

Hampstead’s businesses are mostly small. Small offices and shops sit along Route 111, and plenty of the town’s working paper comes out of home offices: consultants, bookkeepers, real estate agents, contractors and therapists. Each of them handles paper that a federal rule says has to be destroyed properly.

Real estate agents

Closing files, copies of IDs and credit information pile up fast. Our page on realtor shredding covers what to keep and for how long.

Landlords and lenders

Credit reports on tenants or borrowers fall under the FTC Disposal Rule, 16 CFR Part 682. When you are done, burn, pulverize or shred them.

Bookkeepers and tax preparers

The GLBA Safeguards Rule, 16 CFR Part 314, covers tax preparers. Client files past retention belong in a shredder, not a blue cart.

Therapists and small practices

HIPAA expects safeguards through disposal. Ask for a BAA when you book. The medical shredding service page has the details.

On the health side, the HIPAA Privacy Rule asks covered entities to have appropriate safeguards in place, 45 CFR 164.530(c), and the Security Rule asks for disposal policies for media holding health information, 45 CFR 164.310(d)(2)(i). Cross-cut shredding with a certificate on file covers the paper, and old drives go in their own bag for physical destruction.

New Hampshire adds a rule of its own for electronic records. Under RSA 359-C:20, a business that owns or licenses computerized personal information must look into a suspected breach and notify the people affected if misuse is likely or cannot be ruled out. Retired laptops and drives from a home office deserve the same care as a filing cabinet.

For a small Hampstead office, the pickup math depends on the zone you land in. In Zone 1, ten boxes picked up cost $364.85. In Zone 2, $394.85. If a staff member would lose most of a morning making the trip, either number is usually worth it. If the owner can drop the boxes on the way to a meeting in Andover or Lowell, drive them.

Our short answer for Hampstead: drive anything you can lift into a car, and pick whichever highway is moving. Book the pickup when the job is big, upstairs, or tied to an estate, and ask about your zone when you call.

A witnessed session is its own case. One of our staff runs your material while you watch, so it costs more per pound, and a single box hits the $100 minimum. Five boxes of closed client files, about 150 pounds, come to about $298.50 plus $34.90 in fees. Read about witnessed shredding before you book one.

Neighboring towns have their own routes and zones. Our page on shredding service in Derry NH covers the town to the west, and document shredding in Plaistow NH covers the border town a little farther southeast, past Atkinson. Every town we serve is listed by zone on our service areas page.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hampstead NH in Zone 1 or Zone 2 for pickup?

We confirm the zone for each Hampstead address when you book, so you know the fee before the pickup. Zone 1 is $129.95 and Zone 2 is $159.95 per pickup. Either way you also pay the regular shredding rates and the $34.90 per-job fees. Prices assume ground-level or elevator access, and stairs carry a handling fee quoted up front.

How much does a shredding service in Hampstead NH cost for one box?

A full banker’s box weighs about 30 pounds. Dropped off at our Tewksbury counter, that is about $29.70 at 99 cents a pound plus $34.90 in per-job fees, roughly $64.60. Picked up in Hampstead, add $129.95 in Zone 1 for about $194.55, or $159.95 in Zone 2 for about $224.55. For one box, drive.

What is the fastest way from Hampstead to your office?

Two routes take about the same time. Go west on Route 111 to I-93 in Salem, then I-93 south to I-495 south. Or go south on Route 121 through Atkinson to I-495 south at the Haverhill line. Either way, get off in Tewksbury for Main Street. It is about 24 to 25 miles and usually 40 to 50 minutes.

The Hampstead transfer station is closed. Where do my papers go?

The town said the Kent Farm Transfer Station would not open in 2026 because of budget cuts. Junk mail can still go in your blue curbside recycling cart. Anything with account numbers, Social Security numbers, signatures or medical details should be shredded first. Bring it to our Tewksbury counter at 99 cents a pound, or book a pickup.

Do you have a drop box in Hampstead?

No. We shred only at our office at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA. We have no office, kiosk or drop box in Hampstead or anywhere else in New Hampshire, and we do not shred at your address. You either drive your boxes down or book a pickup at your confirmed zone price.

Do I need to take staples and folders out?

No. Staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders can stay. Please remove three-ring binder hardware, hanging-folder frames and anything that is not paper. Hard drives, discs and phones go in a separate bag and are quoted per item, which is handy this year with no electronics drop-off at Kent Farm.

Is it cheaper to bring 10 boxes than 9?

Usually. Under 10 boxes we charge by weight, so nine banker’s boxes at about 30 pounds each run about $267.30 before fees. At 10 or more, the flat rate applies, $20 per large box, so ten boxes cost $200 before fees. If you are at eight or nine, fill one more box before you leave.

Can a Hampstead therapist or small practice get a BAA?

Yes. We sign a Business Associate Agreement on request for HIPAA covered entities and business associates, and every job comes with a Certificate of Destruction. A solo practice can drive routine loads down on either highway and book a pickup only for a large records purge or an office move.

How do I prove my records were destroyed?

Every job, whether drop-off, pickup or witnessed, comes with a Certificate of Destruction. It is covered by the $14.95 HIPAA filing fee, which is part of the $34.90 per-job fees. Keep it with your retention records. In a witnessed session the certificate is signed in front of you at our Tewksbury office.
