Quick answer
New Hampshire Document Shredding gives Nashua two everyday options for document shredding: drive your boxes to our office at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA (about 22 miles from City Hall, typically 30 to 35 minutes without traffic) and pay 99 cents a pound, or book a Zone 2 pickup for a $159.95 transportation fee plus the same shredding rates. Every job adds $34.90 in per-job fees, and every job gets a Certificate of Destruction.
Three ways a Nashua customer shreds with us
We shred in one place, our office on Route 38 in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. We have no office, kiosk or drop box in Nashua or anywhere else in New Hampshire, and we don’t park a shredder at your curb. What changes from one customer to the next is how the paper gets to us.
That keeps the choice simple. You either bring the boxes yourself, we come and get them, or you book a time to stand at the shredder and watch. Here is how the three compare for someone starting in Nashua.
Drop-off in Tewksbury
Walk in Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., no appointment. We weigh your boxes at the counter, you pay 99 cents a pound (or $15 and $20 per box once you bring 10 or more), and the paper is shredded that same business day. Read how drop-off shredding works at the counter.
Zone 2 pickup from Nashua
Book a date, leave the boxes by the door, and we load them and bring them back to Tewksbury for shredding. Greater Nashua sits in Zone 2, so the transportation fee is $159.95 on top of the shredding rates. Our off-site shredding page explains the full pickup process.
Witnessed session
Book a time, bring your material, and watch it go through the shredder at our office. The certificate is signed in front of you. It costs $1.99 a pound with a $100 job minimum, plus the per-job fees. Lawyers and therapists tend to like this one.
All three end the same way. The paper is cross-cut, the shred is baled and sent to be recycled, and you get a Certificate of Destruction for your files. The only real differences are price, your time, and whether you need to see it happen.
What a shredding service in Nashua NH costs, with the math shown
Here is every number we charge, so you can work out the bill before you load the car. These are the same rates on our full shredding rates page. Nashua customers do not pay a different shredding rate. The only Nashua-specific number is the Zone 2 transportation fee, and you only pay it when we drive up to get your boxes.
| Item | Price | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Shredding by weight | 99¢ per pound | Under 10 boxes, or loose paper and bags |
| Small box rate | $15 per box | 10 or more boxes |
| Large (banker’s) box rate | $20 per box | 10 or more boxes |
| HIPAA filing fee | $14.95 per job | Every job. Covers the Certificate of Destruction paperwork |
| Environmental fee | $19.95 per job | Every job. Covers recycling the shred |
| Zone 2 transportation | $159.95 per pickup | Pickups in greater Nashua. Zone confirmed when you book |
| Witnessed shredding | $1.99 per pound, $100 minimum | By appointment at the Tewksbury office |
| Hard drives and media | Quoted per item | Drives, tapes, discs, USB sticks, phones |
A standard banker’s box of paper weighs about 30 pounds. So one box at the counter runs about $29.70 in shredding, plus $34.90 in per-job fees, for roughly $64.60 all in. Five boxes come to about 150 pounds, which is $148.50 plus $34.90, or about $183.40. The scale decides the final number, and a box packed with dense files can weigh more.
Counter tip: if you have eight or nine boxes, bring a tenth. Nine banker’s boxes by weight run about $267.30 before fees. Ten boxes at the $20 box rate are $200. The extra box costs you nothing and saves you about $67.
Notice how the pickup bar sits $159.95 above the drop-off bar at every size. That fee is the same for one box or twenty, so it matters a lot on a small job and much less on a big one. On a single box, pickup more than triples the bill. On twenty boxes, it adds a little over a third.
The drive from Nashua to 1215 Main Street
From Nashua City Hall at 229 Main Street, the fastest way down is the Everett Turnpike south. It becomes Route 3 once you cross into Massachusetts, and you stay on it to I-495 in Chelmsford. Take I-495 north toward Lawrence for about four miles, get off at Route 38 for Tewksbury, and follow Main Street south about two and a half miles to our building.
The whole run is about 22 miles. Without traffic it typically takes 30 to 35 minutes from downtown. If you start in south Nashua, near Spit Brook Road or the Daniel Webster Highway shops by the state line, you are already a few miles closer.
- Get on the turnpike. From downtown, head south on Main Street and follow the signs for the Everett Turnpike south toward Boston. From the Amherst Street side of town, the turnpike ramps are a few minutes away.
- Stay on Route 3 into Massachusetts. The turnpike name ends at the state line but the road keeps going as Route 3 through Tyngsborough and into Chelmsford. It is about 10 miles of highway.
- Take I-495 north toward Lawrence. At the big Chelmsford interchange, follow the I-495 signs for Lawrence. You pass Lowell on your left and stay on for about four miles.
- Exit at Route 38 for Tewksbury. At the bottom of the ramp, head south on Main Street (Route 38). Our building is about two and a half miles down, at 1215 Main Street.
- Park out front and come in. Parking is free, right by the door. Tell us you have boxes and someone will help you unload onto a cart.
Timing matters more than the route. Route 3 and I-495 both back up on weekday commutes, so we suggest leaving Nashua after the morning rush and before the afternoon one. We open at 10 a.m., which already lines up well with a late-morning drive. For more on timing and turn-by-turn detail, see our Nashua to Tewksbury drop-off directions.
How Zone 2 pickup works for a Nashua NH shredding service
Pickup is for the jobs you can’t or shouldn’t haul yourself. Think an office cleanout, a basement full of old client files, or a practice that can’t spare a staff member for an afternoon. Pickup always needs an appointment, and we never promise same-day service. Book it a little ahead and pick a day that suits you.
- Book online or call. Use the booking form or call (978) 636-0301. Tell us the address, roughly how many boxes or bags, and anything that is not paper, like hard drives.
- We confirm the zone and access. Greater Nashua is Zone 2 at $159.95. We confirm the zone for your exact address when you book. The price assumes ground-level or elevator access. Stairs or restricted access carry a handling fee, and we quote it up front.
- Get the boxes ready. Close them up and stack them near the door. You don’t need to pull staples, paper clips, binder clips or rubber bands. Take out three-ring binder hardware, hanging-folder frames and anything that isn’t paper.
- We load and drive them to Tewksbury. Your boxes go straight into our vehicle and come back to the office, where they are shredded after they arrive. They stay in locked handling the whole way.
- You get your certificate. The Certificate of Destruction comes with every job. File it with your records so you can show when and how the material was destroyed.
The pickup is priced at the same shredding rates as drop-off. So 20 banker’s boxes picked up from a Nashua office come to $400 for the boxes, $34.90 in per-job fees and $159.95 for Zone 2, for $594.85. If that office sits up a flight of stairs with no elevator, ask for the handling fee when you book so nothing surprises you. There’s more on how the zones are drawn in our guide to shredding pickup cost by distance.
Tell us about the building when you call. Some downtown Nashua offices sit above storefronts on Main Street, up a flight of stairs with no elevator. An office park off Spit Brook Road with a loading door is a different job. Neither is a problem, but the handling fee depends on it, and we would rather quote it once than surprise you on the day.
It also helps to know who will meet the driver. For a medical or legal office, have the person who signs for records hand the boxes over and keep the booking confirmation with your certificate. That gives you a clean paper trail from your door to the shredder.
What every Nashua job includes
Drop-off, pickup or witnessed, the paperwork and the process are the same. These are the numbers that never change, whatever service you pick.
- Cross-cut shredding at our Tewksbury office, never at the curb
- Locked handling and a documented chain of custody from your door or our counter to the shredder
- A Certificate of Destruction on every job, at no charge beyond the HIPAA filing fee
- A Business Associate Agreement on request for HIPAA covered entities and business associates
- Every bit of the shredded paper recycled
- No long-term contract. Book once, or book every quarter
Document shredding Nashua offices and practices actually use
Nashua is a city of small and mid-sized offices. There are law and accounting offices downtown along Main Street, retail and service businesses up and down the Daniel Webster Highway, and offices spread out along Amherst Street and in the parks off Spit Brook Road. Each of them makes paper that someone eventually has to destroy properly.
Medical and dental practices cluster around the city’s two hospitals, St. Joseph Hospital and Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. Those practices print schedules, intake forms, referrals and explanation of benefits letters every day. HIPAA expects them to protect that paper right through disposal, under 45 CFR 164.530(c), and to have a disposal policy for drives and devices holding electronic health information, under 45 CFR 164.310(d)(2)(i).
Medical and dental
Charts, intake forms and EOBs. Ask for a BAA. Our medical shredding service page covers the HIPAA side, and there is a guide to medical office shredding in Nashua NH too.
Law offices
Closed matter files, drafts and copies of IDs. Many firms pick a witnessed session so a staff member can sign off in person.
Tax preparers and CPAs
The GLBA Safeguards Rule (16 CFR Part 314) covers tax preparers. Old returns and client worksheets past their retention date belong in the shredder, not the bin.
Landlords and dealers
If you pull credit reports on tenants or buyers, the FTC Disposal Rule (16 CFR Part 682) says burn, pulverize or shred them when you’re done.
For most Nashua offices, the decision comes down to volume. A small office with a few boxes after tax season should send someone down Route 3 on a quiet afternoon. A practice clearing out a records room should book the pickup and keep its staff at the front desk. If you also have old computers, hard drives get physically destroyed and quoted per item. Bag them separately and see our hard drive destruction page.
New Hampshire’s breach notice law, RSA 359-C:20, applies to computerized data that holds personal information. That is one more reason to treat an old office drive as seriously as a filing cabinet. Paper records follow the federal rules above, plus whatever your licensing board or contracts require.
Shredding for Nashua households
Most of the Nashua residents who come in are clearing out one of three things. There’s the box of old tax returns, the pile from a parent’s house, or the drawer of bank and credit card statements that finally got too full. None of it should go in a curbside recycling bin with your name and account numbers on it.
For a household, the drop-off nearly always wins. Two or three boxes from a Nashua basement come to roughly $94 to $124 at the counter, and you can be there and back in a long lunch hour. A Zone 2 pickup would add $159.95 to that, which is hard to justify for a couple of boxes.
Pickup starts to make sense for estates. If you are an executor emptying a house in Nashua with fifteen or twenty boxes of records and no one able to lift them, let us load them. Our residential shredding page has more household cost examples and covers what to keep.
Before you shred tax papers, check how long to keep them. The IRS says to keep records for 3 years in most cases, 6 years if you left out income worth more than 25 percent of what you reported, and 7 years if you claimed a loss from worthless securities or a bad debt deduction. Employment tax records are 4 years.
| Record | IRS guidance on keeping it | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Most income tax records | 3 years | Shred |
| Returns with income left out worth more than 25 percent of reported gross income | 6 years | Shred |
| Worthless securities or bad debt deduction | 7 years | Shred |
| Employment tax records | 4 years after the tax is due or paid | Shred |
| No return filed, or a fraudulent return | Keep indefinitely | Keep |
You don’t need to sort anything for us. Leave the staples, paper clips and file folders in. Just pull out three-ring binder rings, the metal frames from hanging folders, and anything that isn’t paper. Put old phones or hard drives in a separate bag and we will quote them.
What the City of Nashua handles, and what it doesn’t
Nashua’s curbside recycling is single stream. Paper, containers and cardboard can share one bin, and recycling is picked up every other week on your trash day. The city asks you to have it out by 6:45 a.m. That system is built for junk mail and cereal boxes, not for paperwork that would hurt you if it blew down the street.
The city’s Solid Waste Department runs out of 840 West Hollis Street, at the Four Hills Landfill and Nashua Recycling Center. Its household hazardous waste days take chemicals, paint thinners and batteries, not paper. When we checked the city’s trash and recycling page in November 2026, we found no shred day listed there.
Free shred days do happen around Nashua, usually run by banks, credit unions or community groups, often with a box limit and a long line. They are a good deal if your timing matches. For the rest of the year, and for anything a business has to document, the paid option is there. We cover who hosts them in our page on free shredding in Nashua NH.
Nashua mail uses the ZIP codes 03060, 03062, 03063 and 03064, with 03061 for post office boxes. Any of them puts you in our Zone 2 for pickup. If your business is right on a town line, with Hudson or Merrimack say, we confirm the zone for that exact address when you book.
Next door, the story is much the same. We also serve shredding service in Hudson NH customers across the river, and document shredding in Merrimack NH to the north. Out west there’s Milford NH shredding and document shredding in Brookline NH. Every town we cover is listed by zone on our service areas page.
Drop-off, pickup or witnessed: which fits your Nashua job
Here’s how we would steer a Nashua customer standing at our counter. It comes down to the number of boxes, how much your time is worth, and whether anyone has to see the paper destroyed.
| Your situation | Our pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 5 boxes from home | Drop-off | About $64.60 for one box, about $183.40 for five. Pickup would add $159.95 |
| 6 to 9 boxes | Drop-off, and round up to 10 | Ten boxes at $20 each beat nine boxes by the pound |
| 10 to 20 boxes, someone can drive | Drop-off | $234.90 for ten, $434.90 for twenty, both with fees |
| 20 or more boxes, or no one to lift them | Zone 2 pickup | $159.95 on twenty boxes is cheaper than a staff afternoon |
| Legal, clinical or sensitive files you must see destroyed | Witnessed | $1.99 per pound, $100 minimum, certificate signed in front of you |
| Hard drives, phones, tapes | Bag separately | Quoted per item and physically destroyed |
Our short version: for three boxes, drive. For thirty, book the pickup. In between, compare the $159.95 fee to what an afternoon on Route 3 costs you or your staff. If you want the longer comparison, read our page on drop-off vs off-site.
Witnessed shredding costs more per pound because one of our staff runs your material while you stand there. On a single box it hits the $100 minimum. A Nashua law office with five boxes of closed matters would pay about $298.50 for 150 pounds, plus $34.90 in fees. Read more on witnessed shredding before you book.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a shredding service in Nashua NH cost for one box?
One banker’s box weighs about 30 pounds. At our Tewksbury counter that is about $29.70 at 99 cents a pound, plus $34.90 in per-job fees, so roughly $64.60. If we pick up that one box in Nashua, add the $159.95 Zone 2 fee, for about $224.55. For one box, driving it down is the better deal.
Do you have a drop-off location in Nashua?
No. We shred at one place only, our office at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA. We have no office, kiosk or drop box in Nashua or anywhere in New Hampshire. Nashua customers either drive down, which is about 22 miles from City Hall, or book a Zone 2 pickup.
How long is the drive from Nashua to your office?
From Nashua City Hall it is about 22 miles. Take the Everett Turnpike south, which becomes Route 3 in Massachusetts, then I-495 north toward Lawrence, then Route 38 south into Tewksbury. Without traffic it typically takes 30 to 35 minutes. Avoid the weekday rush hours on Route 3 and I-495 if you can.
Which pickup zone is Nashua in?
Greater Nashua is in Zone 2, with a transportation fee of $159.95 per pickup. You also pay the normal shredding rates and the $34.90 per-job fees. We confirm the exact zone for your address when you book. The price assumes ground-level or elevator access, and stairs carry a handling fee we quote up front.
Can a Nashua medical office get a Business Associate Agreement?
Yes. We sign a Business Associate Agreement on request for HIPAA covered entities and business associates. Every job also comes with a Certificate of Destruction. Practices near St. Joseph Hospital or Southern New Hampshire Medical Center often use pickup for big cleanouts and drop-off for smaller monthly loads.
Do I need to take out staples and folders?
No. Leave staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders in. Please remove three-ring binder hardware, the metal frames from hanging folders, and anything that is not paper. Hard drives, discs and phones go in a separate bag, and we quote them per item.
Is it cheaper to bring 10 boxes than 9?
Usually, yes. Under 10 boxes we charge by the pound, so nine banker’s boxes at about 30 pounds each run about $267.30 before fees. At 10 or more boxes the flat rate kicks in at $20 per large box, so ten boxes are $200 before fees. If you are close, bring the extra box.
Does the City of Nashua offer a shred day?
When we checked the city’s trash and recycling page in November 2026, it listed no shred day. Nashua runs single-stream curbside recycling every other week and household hazardous waste days, which take chemicals, not paper. Free shred days in the area are usually hosted by banks, credit unions or community groups, often with box limits.
How do I prove my Nashua records were destroyed?
Every job, drop-off, pickup or witnessed, comes with a Certificate of Destruction. It is covered by the $14.95 HIPAA filing fee that is part of the $34.90 per-job fees. Keep it with your retention records. For a witnessed session, the certificate is signed in front of you at our Tewksbury office.
