Quick answer
New Hampshire Document Shredding handles document shredding for Pelham at one place, our office at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA, about 11 miles from the Pelham Village Green by way of Route 38. Walk in any weekday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and pay 99 cents a pound plus $34.90 in per-job fees, or book a Zone 1 pickup that adds a $129.95 transportation fee to the same rates. Every job comes with a Certificate of Destruction.
Three ways a Pelham customer gets paper shredded
We shred in exactly one building, our office on Main Street in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. There is no office, kiosk or drop box of ours in Pelham or anywhere else in New Hampshire, and nobody from our team shows up with a shredder at your curb. The only real question is how your paper gets from Pelham to our counter.
For most towns that question takes some thought. For Pelham it barely does, because Route 38 leaves the Village Green and runs all the way to our parking lot. Still, there are three ways to do it, and each one suits a different kind of job.
Drive it down yourself
Walk in Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with no appointment. We weigh your paper and charge 99 cents a pound, or $15 per small box and $20 per large box once you bring 10 or more. Paper you drop off is shredded that same business day. The drop-off shredding page walks through the counter routine.
Book a Zone 1 pickup
Pelham is one of the border towns in our Zone 1, so a pickup adds a $129.95 transportation fee on top of the normal shredding rates. We load the boxes, drive them back to Tewksbury and shred them there. Read how off-site shredding works from booking to certificate.
Watch it happen
A witnessed session lets you stand beside the shredder at our office while your own paper goes through. It costs $1.99 a pound with a $100 job minimum, plus the per-job fees, and the certificate is signed in front of you. People clearing out legal or clinical files ask for this one most.
The finish line is the same for all three. Your paper is cross-cut, the shred is baled and recycled, and you leave or receive a Certificate of Destruction you can file. What you are choosing between is price, your own time, and whether you need to see it with your own eyes.
The Route 38 drive from Pelham to 1215 Main Street
Here is the nice part about living in Pelham. You do not need a highway to reach us. Bridge Street, which is Route 38, heads south from the Village Green through Pelham’s commercial stretch, crosses into Dracut, and keeps its number all the way into Tewksbury, where it becomes Main Street. Our building sits on that same road.
- Leave the Village Green on Bridge Street. From the town offices at 6 Village Green, pick up Bridge Street (Route 38) heading south. This is the road with most of Pelham’s shops and service businesses on it.
- Cross into Dracut and stay on 38. At the state line the road keeps its Route 38 signs. You roll through Dracut on the same road without a single highway ramp.
- Follow 38 through Lowell. Route 38 crosses the Merrimack River into Lowell and follows Nesmith Street and then Rogers Street. Watch the signs at the turns. This stretch is where the clock either behaves or doesn’t.
- Keep going as it becomes Main Street. Over the Tewksbury line, Route 38 is Main Street. Stay on it until you reach 1215 Main Street.
- Pull in and let us help. Parking out front is free. Tell whoever is at the counter you have boxes in the car, and someone will bring a cart out and help you unload.
The full run is about 11 miles. On a clear day it takes around 25 minutes, and 35 is a more honest number when Lowell is busy. That makes Pelham one of the easiest New Hampshire drop-offs we serve. A Pelham customer can leave after a late breakfast, be back before lunch, and never touch I-93.
Timing still matters a little. We open at 10 a.m., which means you miss the morning rush on Route 38 through Lowell without trying. The last hour before 5 p.m. is the one to avoid if you can, because that is when the Lowell end of the trip slows down.
What a shredding service in Pelham NH costs, worked out
Pelham pays the same shredding rate as everyone else. There is no town surcharge and no Pelham price list. The only Pelham-specific number is the Zone 1 transportation fee, and you pay that only when we come to you. Everything below matches our full shredding rates page.
| Charge | Price | When you pay it |
|---|---|---|
| Shredding by weight | 99¢ per pound | Under 10 boxes, or loose paper and bags |
| Small box rate | $15 per box | When you bring 10 or more boxes |
| Large banker’s box rate | $20 per box | When you bring 10 or more boxes |
| HIPAA filing fee | $14.95 per job | Every job. Covers the Certificate of Destruction paperwork |
| Environmental fee | $19.95 per job | Every job. Covers recycling the shred |
| Zone 1 transportation | $129.95 per pickup | Pickups from a Pelham address. Zone confirmed at booking |
| Witnessed shredding | $1.99 per pound, $100 minimum | By appointment at our Tewksbury office |
| Hard drives and other media | Quoted per item | Drives, tapes, discs, USB sticks and phones |
To estimate, use the rule of thumb we use at the counter. A standard banker’s box full of paper weighs about 30 pounds. One box is about $29.70 in shredding, and with the $34.90 per-job fees you are at roughly $64.60. Five boxes are about 150 pounds, so $148.50 plus $34.90, or about $183.40. The scale has the final word, and a box packed tight with files can come in heavier.
Look at the gap between each pair of bars. It is always the same $129.95, because the transportation fee does not care whether we carry one box or twenty. On a single box, a pickup triples the bill. On twenty boxes it adds less than a third. That one fact decides most Pelham jobs.
Counter tip: at eight or nine boxes, bring a tenth. Nine banker’s boxes by weight come to about $267.30 before fees. Ten boxes at the $20 flat rate are $200. Adding the box saves you about $67, and you get rid of one more box of paper.
Zone 1 pickup from a Pelham address
Pickup is not the default for Pelham, and we will say so on the phone. When the drive is this short, most jobs are cheaper if you bring them. Pickup earns its fee when the job is big, heavy, awkward or tied to a schedule you cannot leave.
Good reasons for a Pelham pickup: a garage full of business records after a company closes, an elderly parent’s house with no one able to lift boxes, a home office upstairs with fifteen banker’s boxes, or a contractor who would lose a day of billable work making the trip. Pickup always needs an appointment, and we never promise a same-day visit.
- Book online or call. Use the online form or call (978) 636-0301 with your Pelham address, a rough count of boxes or bags, and anything that is not paper.
- We confirm Zone 1 and the access. Pelham is a Zone 1 border town at $129.95, and we confirm the zone for your exact address when you book. That price assumes ground-level or elevator access. If the boxes are up or down a flight of stairs, a handling fee applies and we quote it before the day.
- Stage the boxes. Tape or fold the boxes closed and stack them near the door or in the garage. Leave staples, paper clips and file folders in. Pull out three-ring binder hardware, hanging-folder frames and anything that is not paper.
- We load and drive to Tewksbury. Your boxes go into our vehicle and straight back down Route 38. They stay in locked handling until they are shredded at our office.
- File your certificate. The Certificate of Destruction comes with the job. Keep it with your records so you can show when the paper was destroyed and by whom.
Twenty banker’s boxes picked up in Pelham come to $400 for the boxes, $34.90 in per-job fees and $129.95 for Zone 1, so $564.85 in total. If you want to see how the zones are drawn across southern New Hampshire, our page on shredding pickup zones lays them out.
What every Pelham job includes
Whether you carry a single box through our door or we haul thirty out of your basement, the process and the paperwork do not change. These numbers hold for every job.
- Cross-cut shredding at our Tewksbury office, never at your curb
- Locked handling and a documented chain of custody from your door or our counter to the shredder
- A Certificate of Destruction on every job, with no charge beyond the HIPAA filing fee
- A Business Associate Agreement on request for HIPAA covered entities and business associates
- All of the shredded paper recycled
- No contract. Come once, or come every spring after taxes
Pelham households: what to shred and when to bring it
Pelham is mostly homes, and most of the Pelham paper we see comes out of basements, closets and spare rooms. Old tax returns, bank and credit card statements, pay stubs, medical bills, a filing cabinet from a home business that wound down years ago. None of it belongs in a recycling bin with your name and account numbers printed on it.
For a household, the drive almost always wins. Two or three boxes come to roughly $94 to $124 at the counter, all fees in. The trip down Route 38 and back fits in a morning. A pickup would add $129.95 to that bill, which rarely makes sense for a few boxes.
Before you load the car, check what you are allowed to let go. The IRS keeps it simple. Keep most tax records for 3 years, 6 years if you left out income worth more than 25 percent of what you reported, and 7 years if you claimed a loss from worthless securities or a bad debt deduction. Employment tax records stay at least 4 years. Our NH tax document retention guide goes into more detail.
| Record | IRS guidance | After that |
|---|---|---|
| Most income tax records | Keep 3 years | Shred |
| Return with unreported income over 25 percent of gross income | Keep 6 years | Shred |
| Loss from worthless securities or bad debt deduction | Keep 7 years | Shred |
| Employment tax records | At least 4 years after the tax is due or paid | Shred |
| No return filed, or a fraudulent return | Keep indefinitely | Keep |
Estates are the exception to the drive-it-yourself rule. If you are an executor clearing a parent’s house in Pelham and the paper fills a room, book the pickup and spend your energy elsewhere. Our residential shredding page has more household examples, and there is a separate guide for Pelham NH home shredding with box-by-box costs.
Pelham businesses, from Bridge Street to the home office
Pelham’s business life runs along Bridge Street, the Route 38 corridor, plus a long list of businesses run out of home offices and garages. Contractors, lawn care crews, insurance agents, bookkeepers, small medical and dental practices, landlords with a few units. Nearly every one of them creates paper that a federal rule says must be destroyed properly.
Contractors and trades
Bids, signed contracts, employee files with Social Security numbers, old invoices. Keep what your accountant needs, then shred. Employment tax records stay at least 4 years.
Landlords
Tenant applications and credit reports fall under the FTC Disposal Rule, 16 CFR Part 682. When you are done with a consumer report, it must be burned, pulverized or shredded.
Bookkeepers and tax preparers
The GLBA Safeguards Rule, 16 CFR Part 314, reaches tax preparers. Client returns past their retention date go to the shredder, not the bin. See our page for CPA and accountant shredding.
Medical and dental
Intake forms, schedules and EOBs. HIPAA expects safeguards through disposal. Ask for a BAA when you book. Our medical shredding service page covers the details.
For a Pelham business, the math lines up the same way it does for a household, just at higher volume. If someone can make the 11-mile drive, a load of ten or twenty boxes at the flat box rate is cheaper at the counter. If the person who would drive bills by the hour, or the boxes are stacked in a second-floor office with a narrow stair, the $129.95 pickup buys back the afternoon.
HIPAA’s Privacy Rule asks covered entities to keep appropriate safeguards in place, 45 CFR 164.530(c), and the Security Rule asks for policies on the final disposal of media holding health information, 45 CFR 164.310(d)(2)(i). Cross-cut shredding with a certificate on file covers the paper side, and drives go in their own bag for physical destruction. For old computers, hard drives are physically destroyed and quoted per item on our hard drive destruction page.
New Hampshire’s own law adds a reason to take old drives seriously. RSA 359-C:20 requires a business that owns or licenses computerized personal information to investigate a suspected breach and notify the people affected when misuse is likely or cannot be ruled out. If you want the business-only version of this page, our guide to Pelham NH business shredding goes deeper on Zone 1 pickups for small firms.
What the Pelham transfer station takes, and what to bring us instead
Pelham runs its own Recycling Center and Transfer Station at 74 Newcomb Field Parkway. It is for Pelham residents only. You need a sticker on your vehicle, which is free, and you get it by showing a valid driver’s license and the vehicle’s registration at the station or at 33 Newcomb Field Parkway. Seasonal camp owners qualify too.
When we checked the town site in November 2026, the station was closed Sundays and Mondays, open Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:55 p.m., and open Wednesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:25 p.m. Check the town page before you go, since hours change.
The town’s recycling list covers aluminum and steel cans, cardboard and cartons, glass, plastics and mixed paper. Cardboard has to be broken down to 4 by 4 or smaller. That is a good home for junk mail, catalogs, envelopes with nothing on them and the cereal box.
It is not a good home for anything with an account number or a signature. Mixed paper goes into a recycling stream in one piece. Statements, tax forms, medical bills and old checks should be shredded first, and that is where we come in.
One more Pelham rule that touches our work. The town notes that from July 1, 2025, New Hampshire bans rechargeable lithium-ion batteries from the facilities that take household trash. That covers old phones, laptops and tablets. If those devices also hold personal data, bag them separately and bring them to us. We physically destroy drives and phones and quote them per item.
Pelham’s mail all goes to one ZIP code, 03076, and Pelham is one of our Zone 1 border towns. We still confirm the zone for your exact address at booking, which matters most for homes right on the Hudson or Windham line.
Free community shred days pop up around the region, usually hosted by banks, credit unions or civic groups, often with a box limit and a line. They are worth it if the date fits. When we checked in November 2026, Pelham’s town site did not list one. Our roundup of shred events keeps track of what we know about across the state.
Which shredding service fits which Pelham customer
This is how we would steer someone from Pelham standing at our counter. It comes down to box count, how much your time is worth, and whether anyone needs to see the paper destroyed.
| Your situation | Our pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 5 boxes from home | Drop-off | About $64.60 for one box, about $183.40 for five. Pickup adds $129.95 |
| 6 to 9 boxes | Drop-off, rounded up to 10 | Ten boxes at $20 beat nine boxes by the pound |
| 10 to 25 boxes, someone free to drive | Drop-off | $234.90 for ten, $434.90 for twenty, fees included |
| Estate cleanout, stairs, or no one able to lift | Zone 1 pickup | $129.95 to skip the loading and the trip |
| Client, patient or legal files you must see destroyed | Witnessed | $1.99 per pound, $100 minimum, certificate signed in front of you |
| Old phones, laptops or hard drives | Separate bag | Quoted per item and physically destroyed |
Our short answer for Pelham: if you can lift it, drive it. You live about as close to our shredder as anyone in New Hampshire, and the Route 38 trip takes about as long as a grocery run. Save the pickup for the jobs where lifting, stairs or time make the $129.95 an easy trade.
A witnessed session sits apart from that. It costs more per pound because one of our staff runs your material while you watch, and on one box it hits the $100 minimum. Five boxes of closed client files, around 150 pounds, come to about $298.50 plus $34.90 in fees. Read about witnessed shredding before you book one.
Next door, the picture shifts a bit. Salem customers have I-93 straight down to us, and our page on shredding in Salem covers that route. Over the river, shredding service in Hudson NH has its own drive and zone. Every town we serve is listed on our service areas page.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a shredding service in Pelham NH cost for one box?
A full banker’s box weighs about 30 pounds. At our Tewksbury counter that is about $29.70 at 99 cents a pound, plus $34.90 in per-job fees, so roughly $64.60. If we pick the same box up in Pelham, the Zone 1 fee of $129.95 brings it to about $194.55. For one box, the 11-mile drive is the better deal.
How long is the drive from Pelham to your office?
From the Pelham Village Green it is about 11 miles, all on Route 38. Bridge Street runs south through Dracut, Route 38 follows Nesmith and Rogers Streets in Lowell, and then it becomes Main Street in Tewksbury. Plan on about 25 minutes on a quiet day and 35 when Lowell traffic is heavy.
Do you have a drop box or office in Pelham?
No. We shred at one place only, our office at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA. We have no office, kiosk or drop box in Pelham or anywhere else in New Hampshire, and we do not shred at your address. You either drive down on Route 38 or book a Zone 1 pickup.
Which pickup zone is Pelham in?
Pelham is one of the New Hampshire border towns in Zone 1, with a $129.95 transportation fee per pickup. You also pay the regular shredding rates and the $34.90 per-job fees. We confirm the zone for your exact address when you book. The price assumes ground-level or elevator access, and stairs carry a handling fee quoted up front.
Can I put old statements in Pelham’s mixed paper recycling?
The Pelham transfer station accepts mixed paper, but it goes into the recycling stream whole. That is fine for junk mail and catalogs. Anything with an account number, Social Security number, signature or medical detail should be shredded first. Bring it to our counter at 99 cents a pound and you leave with a Certificate of Destruction.
Do I need to take out staples and folders first?
No. Staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders can all stay. Please take out three-ring binder hardware, the metal frames from hanging folders, and anything that is not paper. Hard drives, discs and phones go in a separate bag, and we quote them per item.
Is it cheaper to bring 10 boxes than 9?
Usually yes. Under 10 boxes we charge by weight, so nine banker’s boxes at about 30 pounds each run about $267.30 before fees. At 10 or more boxes the flat rate applies, $20 per large box, so ten boxes cost $200 before fees. If you are at eight or nine, bring one more.
Can a Pelham medical or dental office get a BAA?
Yes. We sign a Business Associate Agreement on request for HIPAA covered entities and business associates. Every job also gets a Certificate of Destruction. A small Pelham practice can drive routine loads down Route 38 and save the Zone 1 pickup for a big chart purge or an office move.
How do I prove my records were destroyed?
Every job, whether drop-off, pickup or witnessed, comes with a Certificate of Destruction. It is covered by the $14.95 HIPAA filing fee, which is part of the $34.90 per-job fees. File it with your retention records. In a witnessed session the certificate is signed in front of you at our Tewksbury office.
