Quick answer

New Hampshire Document Shredding serves Manchester two ways: drive your boxes about 40 minutes down I-93 to 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA and pay 99 cents a pound, or book a pickup from your Manchester address for a $159.95 Zone 2 transport fee plus the same rate. Every job adds $34.90 in fixed fees and includes a Certificate of Destruction.

Under ten boxes, most Manchester customers drive. For a records room or a firm closing out files, the pickup earns its fee. Our document shredding prices are the same in every New Hampshire town.

How our shredding service works for Manchester

Manchester is the biggest city we serve, and the question we get most from the Queen City is simple. Do you come to us, or do we come to you? The answer depends on how much paper you have and how much your morning is worth.

Start with what does not change. We shred at one place, our office at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Nothing is shredded in Manchester, and we have no drop box or kiosk anywhere in New Hampshire.

That single address is why the price stays plain. Every Manchester job pays the same 99 cents a pound that a Tewksbury neighbor pays. If we drive to you, a flat Zone 2 fee covers the trip. You can read every number before you pick up the phone.

Most of our Manchester customers come from three groups: offices in the Millyard and along Elm Street, medical and dental practices near the two hospitals, and households cleaning out years of statements.

Drop-off at the Tewksbury counter: weigh, pay by the pound or by the box, and the paper is shredded the same business day.

Drive it to Tewksbury

No appointment, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You pay 99 cents a pound, or a flat $15 per small box and $20 per large box at 10 boxes or more. Read the details on our drop-off shredding page.

Book a Manchester pickup

We collect from your office or home on an agreed date and shred at our office once the boxes arrive. Manchester sits in Zone 2, so transport is $159.95. The full process is on our off-site shredding page.

Watch it happen

A witnessed session in Tewksbury lets you see your own files go through the shredder and sign the certificate at the machine. It runs $1.99 a pound with a $100 minimum, plus the fixed fees. Law firms and executors book it most.

Drive or book a pickup from Manchester

Here is the short version we give Manchester callers. For three boxes, drive. For thirty, book the pickup. In between, it comes down to who has the time and how many boxes fit in the car.

The drive from Manchester is short enough to make drop-off a real option. Forty minutes each way, a few minutes at the counter, and you are home before lunch. That saves the $159.95 transport fee, which is more than the shredding itself on most household jobs.

A pickup wins when the boxes are heavy, many, or stuck on a third floor. It also wins when the person who would make the drive bills by the hour. An office manager’s morning usually costs more than the transport fee.

If someone in your office already drives toward Lowell, Andover or Boston for work, ask them to take the boxes. The drop-off is right off I-495, so a stop on the way costs ten minutes and saves the full transport fee.

Free community shred days do happen around Manchester, but they come and go with the seasons. Our page on free shredding in Manchester explains what they take and how they compare with paying. For the full side by side of both paid services, see drop-off vs off-site.

Shredding service prices for Manchester NH

The math has three parts. First the shredding: 99 cents a pound under 10 boxes, or $15 per small box and $20 per large banker’s box at 10 or more. A full banker’s box of paper weighs about 30 pounds, so a single box runs about $29.70.

Second, the fixed fees on every job: $14.95 for the HIPAA filing that produces your certificate and $19.95 for recycling the shred, $34.90 in total. Third, if we drive, the Zone 2 transport fee of $159.95. All of it is on our shredding rates page.

The gold bars always sit $159.95 above the green ones. At one box, the pickup costs more than three times the drive. At twenty boxes, the gap is the same in dollars but much smaller as a share of the bill, which is why larger Manchester offices tend to book.

A small pricing quirk is worth knowing. Seven, eight or nine full boxes by the pound come to more than $200, the price of ten large boxes at the flat rate. If you are close to ten, finish the tenth box.

Access matters for pickups. The Zone 2 fee assumes ground-level or elevator access. A mill building with an elevator is easy. A walk-up office over an Elm Street storefront is not. A handling fee applies for stairs or restricted access, and we quote it before you book. Our guide to pickup costs by distance shows how Manchester compares with the Seacoast and the border towns.

The I-93 drive from Manchester to Tewksbury

The route is about as simple as New England driving gets. Get on I-93 South, ride it through Londonderry, Windham and Salem into Massachusetts, then take I-495 South at the I-93 junction for a few minutes to the Route 38 exit. Our office is on Route 38, Main Street, near the interchange.

Staff help you unload. Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
From downtown Manchester or the Millyard, the drive is I-93 South, a short run on I-495 South and the Route 38 exit. Rush hour at the state line adds time.

From downtown or the West Side, I-293 is the quickest way onto I-93. Count on about 35 miles and roughly 40 to 45 minutes outside rush hour. The morning commute southbound and the evening commute north through Salem can add a good chunk to that, so a mid-morning run is the easy one.

  1. Pack the boxes the night before. Lidded banker’s boxes stack flat in a trunk or a back seat. Tape any box that is overfull.
  2. Take I-93 South. From downtown, use I-293 to reach it. Stay on I-93 past the Salem exits and across the state line.
  3. Switch to I-495 South. At the I-93 and I-495 junction, follow I-495 toward Lowell for a few minutes.
  4. Exit at Route 38. Head for 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, in Tewksbury.
  5. Park and unload. Parking out front is free and staff help bring the boxes in.
  6. Weigh, pay, leave with a certificate. The paper is shredded the same business day, and the Certificate of Destruction lists the date and weight.

No account or appointment is needed at the counter. Carry nothing heavy, tell us the name for the certificate, and wait while the boxes go on the scale. Most Manchester drop-offs take a few minutes from parking to pulling out, which makes it an easy stop on a day you are already headed south.

Manchester offices: the Millyard, Elm Street and the hospitals

Every part of the city produces a different kind of paper. Here is how the main business areas tend to use us, based on what Manchester callers tell us.

The Millyard

Tech companies, startups, engineering firms and UNH Manchester share the old mill buildings along the Merrimack. Offices here often purge a storage room once a year. Tell us about elevator access when you book.

Elm Street downtown

Law firms, banks, accountants and insurance agents line Elm Street and the side streets near the courts. Client files with long retention periods pile up, then leave in one large batch.

Elliot and CMC areas

Medical, dental and therapy practices cluster near Elliot Hospital on the East Side and Catholic Medical Center on the West Side. They need a certificate for each batch and a BAA on file.

Around the colleges

Near SNHU and UNH Manchester, landlords and property managers keep tenant screening reports and old leases. Consumer report paper falls under the FTC Disposal Rule once it is no longer needed.

Law offices have their own concerns, from client confidentiality to file closeout. Our page on Manchester law office shredding goes into those in detail, including when a witnessed session makes sense.

Practices near the hospitals should start with our medical shredding service page. It explains how the Business Associate Agreement works and what your certificate records.

Tax preparers and bookkeepers across the city have their own rhythm. Client copies pile up through April, and the old years come due for shredding once the retention period ends. Our page for CPA and accountant shredding covers the GLBA side of that work and how to schedule around tax season.

Many Millyard tenants share a loading area. When you book, tell us the building, the suite and where the driver should park. A pickup that starts at the right door takes minutes, not an hour.

Manchester households and the city’s recycling rules

Most Manchester homes do not need a pickup. They need a free morning, a few boxes and a plan for what is worth shredding. The rest of the paper can go out with the weekly recycling.

The City of Manchester runs single-stream recycling in a blue, city-approved cart. Its Recycling Collection page lists paper and cardboard as accepted, asks you to keep items loose, and says not to bag your recycling. Carts must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day.

That keep-it-loose rule matters if you shred at home. The city page does not address shredded paper, and loose strips are exactly what blows out of a cart on a windy pickup day. Ask the city’s Trash and Recycling office before you put shreds in the blue cart. Or skip the home shredder and bring whole documents to us, since we recycle all of the shred.

The city’s Drop Off Facility at 500 Dunbarton Road also takes paper and cardboard, with an annual permit, for Manchester residents and businesses. It is a recycling site, not a shredding service, so personal papers should be shredded first.

What Manchester households bring us most

  • Old tax returns and receipts past the IRS keeping period, three years in most cases
  • Bank and credit card statements from accounts you closed or now get online
  • Medical bills and insurance explanation of benefits forms
  • Pay stubs, W-2s and old employer paperwork
  • Mortgage and refinance packets from a home you sold
  • A parent’s files after a move to assisted living or a death in the family

For a household version of this page, with apartment buildings and tax time in mind, read Manchester home shredding. The statewide guide to residential shredding covers what to keep and what to let go.

Executors get the biggest piles. A family home in the North End or on the West Side can hold decades of checkbooks, medical bills and tax files. Keep the last few years of returns and anything the estate attorney wants, then shred the rest in one trip or one pickup. Our page on estate and downsizing shredding lays out a sorting order that keeps the job to a weekend.

A tip from the counter: sort before you box. Junk mail without your name, plain envelopes and catalogs go straight in the blue cart. Only paper with account numbers, signatures, health details or your Social Security number needs to come to us, and you pay by weight, so the sort saves money.

How a Manchester pickup works

Think of a pickup as an appointment, not a truck that circles the city. You choose a date with us, our driver collects the boxes, and the paper is shredded in Tewksbury after it arrives. Here are the steps.

  1. Book online or by phone. Give the address, a rough box count, and whether there are stairs, an elevator or a dock. We confirm Zone 2 and the date.
  2. Get the boxes ready. Staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders can stay. Remove three-ring binder hardware and hanging-folder frames.
  3. Bag the media separately. Drives, phones, CDs and tapes go in their own labeled bag. They are physically destroyed and quoted per item.
  4. Count and hand off. The driver loads the sealed boxes. Agree the count at the door so it matches the paperwork.
  5. Shredded at our office. Boxes are weighed and cross-cut shredded in Tewksbury, and the shred is baled for recycling.
  6. File the certificate. Your Certificate of Destruction goes in the records file for the year.

One last walk-through the night before saves trouble. Pull anything you meant to keep, like original signed contracts or a deed. Once a box goes on the van, it is headed for the shredder.

Our printable shredding pickup checklist puts all of this on one page for the front desk.

No curbside shredding

Nothing is shredded in a vehicle or at your address. If a client, a court or your own policy needs you to see the paper destroyed, book a witnessed session at our office instead.

One job at a time

There is no contract and no monthly minimum. Some Manchester offices book once a year after tax season, others every quarter. The rate per pound stays the same.

Records rules Manchester offices should know

New Hampshire does not have a city-level shredding law for Manchester. The rules that shape what you shred and how are federal, plus the state breach notice statute. Here they are in short form.

RuleWho it applies toWhat it asks of you
HIPAA Privacy Rule, 45 CFR 164.530(c)Practices near Elliot, CMC and across the cityReasonable safeguards for patient information, including disposal
HIPAA Security Rule, 45 CFR 164.310(d)(2)(i)The same practices, for drives and mediaWritten policies for final disposal of electronic patient data
FTC Disposal Rule, 16 CFR Part 682Landlords, employers, lenders using consumer reportsBurn, pulverize or shred so the report cannot be read or rebuilt
GLBA Safeguards Rule, 16 CFR Part 314Financial firms, including tax preparersA written information security program that includes disposal
NH RSA 359-C:19 to 359-C:21Anyone holding New Hampshire residents’ personal dataNotice to affected people and the state after a breach

The FTC’s own guidance names shredding papers as one reasonable way to dispose of consumer report information. For a medical office, our page on HIPAA shredding requirements explains the citations in plain words.

Check retention before you purge. The IRS says to keep most tax records for three years, six years if more than 25 percent of income went unreported, seven years for a bad debt or worthless securities claim, and employment tax records for at least four years. Our document retention guide covers business records beyond tax.

The certificate of destruction closes the loop. It records what was destroyed and when, which is what an auditor or a client will ask to see.

Towns around Manchester we serve the same way

Plenty of Manchester businesses have a second office or a partner just down the road. Prices are identical everywhere we go. Only the transport zone changes, and we confirm it when you book.

South on I-93, shredding service in Londonderry and shredding service in Derry sit right on your route to Tewksbury, so a shared trip is easy to plan.

To the south and west, document shredding in Merrimack and shredding service in Hudson follow the same rates. For every town and its zone, see our service areas.

Customers in Bedford, Goffstown and Hooksett ask us the same questions as Manchester callers. Greater Manchester generally falls in Zone 2, but the exact zone depends on the street address, so we confirm it at booking rather than guess. The drive to Tewksbury from any of them is close to the drive from downtown.

Unsure where your address lands? Call (978) 636-0301 with the street address and we will give you the transport fee on the call.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a shredding drop-off in Manchester?

Not from us. New Hampshire Document Shredding has one office, at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA, and every job is shredded there. Manchester customers drive down I-93, about 40 minutes outside rush hour, or book a pickup. We have no drop box, kiosk or office anywhere in New Hampshire.

What does a pickup in Manchester cost?

Manchester is Zone 2, so transport is $159.95. Add the shredding, 99 cents a pound under 10 boxes or $15 to $20 a box at 10 or more, and the $34.90 job fees. Five banker’s boxes come to about $343.35. The zone fee assumes ground-level or elevator access, and stairs carry a handling fee quoted before you book.

How long is the drive from Manchester to your office?

About 35 miles, roughly 40 to 45 minutes outside rush hour. Take I-93 South through Londonderry and Salem into Massachusetts, then I-495 South for a few minutes to the Route 38 exit in Tewksbury. Parking is free and staff help you unload. Walk-in hours are Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Can shredded paper go in my Manchester recycling cart?

The city’s Recycling Collection page does not mention shredded paper. It does say to keep recyclables loose and not to bag them, and loose shreds scatter easily. Check with the city’s Trash and Recycling office first. If you bring whole documents to us instead, we shred them and recycle all of the shredded paper.

Do I have to take out staples and folders?

No. Leave staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders in place. Take out three-ring binder hardware and hanging-folder frames. Anything that is not paper, like CDs, hard drives or phones, goes in a separate bag, because media is destroyed separately and quoted per item.

Do you sign a Business Associate Agreement for Manchester medical offices?

Yes. A BAA is available on request for covered entities and business associates, including practices near Elliot Hospital and Catholic Medical Center. Every job also comes with a Certificate of Destruction, covered by the $14.95 HIPAA filing fee. Ask for the BAA when you book so it is signed before the first pickup.

Can you pick up the same day I call?

We do not promise a pickup on the day you call. Pickups are scheduled by appointment and shredded at our Tewksbury office after the boxes arrive. If you need paper gone today, drive it down. Drop-off paper is shredded the same business day it reaches our counter.

Do I need a contract for regular shredding?

No. You book one job at a time and pay for that job. There is no long-term agreement and no monthly minimum. Some Manchester offices schedule a pickup each quarter, others once a year after tax season. The rate is 99 cents a pound either way, plus the transport and job fees.
