Shredding near Rindge NH: one planned trip or a pickup quote
Shredding near Rindge NH is a distance problem first. Our only shredder is in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, about 48 miles and an hour and twenty minutes away, so this piece shows why one well-planned trip a year, or a pickup quoted for your address, beats a string of small runs.

Quick answer
New Hampshire Document Shredding shreds at one office, 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA, about 48 miles from Rindge by Route 119 and I-495. From that far away, the best plan is to save your paper for one trip a year and pay 99 cents a pound, or $20 per banker’s box at 10 or more, plus $34.90 in per-job fees, so ten boxes cost $234.90. If no one can drive, ask for a pickup quote: Rindge is outside our fixed zones, so the transport fee is confirmed when you book. Our main page on document shredding in Rindge NH covers every other option in town.
Shredding near Rindge NH: what the distance changes
For a customer in Salem or Pelham, we are a 15 to 30 minute errand. They can bring a box whenever one fills up. Rindge is a different case. The town sits on the Massachusetts line at the southern edge of the Monadnock region, and our counter is a long way east.
We ran the trip from the center of Rindge to our door through a routing engine. It came back at about 48 miles and 80 minutes without traffic, almost all of it on Route 119 and I-495. Call it three hours round trip once you count unloading and a stop for coffee.
That distance does two things to the math. It makes every trip expensive in time, so small trips make no sense. And it makes a pickup expensive in driver time, so a pickup only makes sense for a large load. Both point to the same habit: let the paper pile up in one place, then deal with it all at once.
We have no office, kiosk or drop box in Rindge, in the Monadnock region, or anywhere in New Hampshire. We don’t bring a shredder to your driveway. Everything that leaves Rindge with us is weighed and shredded at our Tewksbury office.
The options closer to home, and where each one stops
Before you plan a trip to Massachusetts, it is fair to ask what you can do in town. Some of it works fine for small amounts. None of it is built for a basement of old returns or an office’s closed files.
A home shredder
Good for a few envelopes a week. Slow and prone to jamming for a box, and strip-cut machines leave strips that can be pieced back together.
The transfer station
Rindge’s Recycling and Transfer Station takes paper for recycling. Recycling is not destruction, so a whole statement stays readable.
A free shred day
Banks, credit unions and towns run them now and then, usually with a box limit and a line. Great if the date lines up. Our shred events page explains how they work.
Marker and scissors
The FTC suggests blocking out account numbers with a marker if you have no shredder. It works for one letter. It does not work for ten years of files.
One more line on the transfer station. When we checked the town’s page in November 2026, it was open Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. A permit sticker is required, sold at the Town Clerk’s or Selectmen’s office at 30 Payson Hill Road and not at the station. It is a good home for junk mail and catalogs. It is the wrong home for anything with a Social Security number on it.
So the realistic plan for most Rindge homes and offices is a mix. Shred the odd letter at home, use a shred day when one comes along, and save the real backlog for one trip to Tewksbury or one pickup.
The one planned trip from Rindge to Tewksbury
The routing engine’s pick is not the highway most people expect. Route 119 leaves Rindge heading southeast and crosses into Massachusetts, then runs as a two-lane road through Ashby, Townsend and Groton before it meets I-495 in Littleton. From there it is I-495 north toward Lowell and Lawrence for about 12 miles, then Exit 92 for Route 38 into Tewksbury.
- Pick a weekday. Walk-in drop-off is Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are no weekend hours, so choose a clear weekday and put it on the calendar first.
- Load the night before. Banker’s boxes with lids, sealed, stacked flat in the back. Bag any old drives or phones separately so they can be counted at the counter.
- Leave by early afternoon. Route 119 is slow through the village centers and school zones. Leave Rindge by about 2 p.m. with a big load so you reach us well before closing.
- Join I-495 in Littleton. Take I-495 north toward Lowell, about 12 miles, and leave at Exit 92 for Route 38. Follow Main Street to number 1215.
- Unload, pay, go. Parking is free right out front, and staff help you unload. We weigh or count the boxes, you pay, and the paper is shredded the same business day.
A good trick from the far corners of the state is to make the shredding the second errand, not the whole day. If you already head toward Lowell, Burlington or Boston for appointments or family, the drop-off is a short detour off I-495. More on the counter routine is on our drop-off shredding page.
Why one trip beats four: the cost of shredding near Rindge NH
The shredding price is simple. Under 10 boxes we charge 99 cents a pound, and a full banker’s box weighs about 30 pounds. At 10 boxes or more, it is a flat $20 per large box and $15 per small one. Every job, however small, adds the same two fees: $14.95 for HIPAA filing, which covers the certificate paperwork, and $19.95 environmental, which covers recycling the shred.
Those fixed fees are what punish small trips. Take a household that fills eight boxes a year and see what happens to the bill as the number of trips changes. These are drop-off prices only, before gas and time.
Four small trips cost $377.20 in shredding and fees, plus four round trips of roughly 96 miles each. One trip with the same eight boxes costs $272.50. Pack two more boxes and the flat rate kicks in, so ten boxes cost $234.90, less than the eight. That last bar is the one we steer Rindge customers toward.
| What you bring in one trip | How it is priced | Total with fees |
|---|---|---|
| 1 box (about 30 lb) | 99¢ a pound, about $29.70 | About $64.60 |
| 3 boxes (about 90 lb) | 99¢ a pound, about $89.10 | About $124.00 |
| 8 boxes (about 240 lb) | 99¢ a pound, about $237.60 | About $272.50 |
| 10 large boxes | $20 a box, $200 | $234.90 |
| 15 large boxes | $20 a box, $300 | $334.90 |
| 20 large boxes | $20 a box, $400 | $434.90 |
All our rates are on the shredding rates page. If one or two boxes in the car hold papers you want to watch go through the shredder, you can book a witnessed session for those at $1.99 a pound with a $100 minimum, plus the per-job fees, and drop the rest at the counter.
The Rindge numbers to remember
Four figures cover almost every decision about shredding from this corner of the state.
- Cross-cut shredding at our Tewksbury office, the same business day for drop-offs
- Locked handling and a documented chain of custody
- A Certificate of Destruction on every job
- Every bit of the shredded paper recycled
- No contract. One trip a year is a perfectly normal customer
When a pickup quote makes sense from Rindge
Our off-site shredding service sends a driver to collect sealed boxes and bring them to Tewksbury for shredding. For most of southern New Hampshire the transport fee comes from a fixed zone: $129.95, $159.95 or $199.95. Rindge sits outside the towns those zones name, so we confirm the fee for your address when you book.
That fee is the same whether the driver carries five boxes or fifty, so a quote only pays off on a big load. A pickup earns its keep when a house or office has 20 boxes or more, when nobody can lift 30-pound boxes, or when a business can’t spare a staff member for a three-hour round trip.
Our guide to pickup zones in New Hampshire explains how distance shapes the fee.
- Count first. Count the boxes and note the size. Ten or more large banker’s boxes switch the job to the $20 flat rate, which makes the quote easy to compare.
- Call or book online. Give the Rindge address, the count, and anything that isn’t paper. Ask for the transport fee before you pick a date.
- Describe the access. The price assumes ground-level or elevator access. Steep cellar stairs or a barn loft add a handling fee, quoted up front.
- Compare with the drive. Add the quote to the shredding charge and the $34.90 fees, then set it against three hours and about 96 miles of your own driving.
- Book ahead. Pickups need an appointment and we never promise a collection on the day you call. Pick a date a week or two out.
The day itself is covered in our shredding pickup checklist. The boxes are shredded after they reach our office, and the certificate follows.
Rindge and its Monadnock neighbours: pooling one trip
Jaffrey, Fitzwilliam, New Ipswich and the other towns around Rindge face the same distance. That makes them natural partners. One car full of boxes from three households costs one trip instead of three, and if one person books a pickup, everyone’s sealed boxes can wait at that address.
Each drop-off or pickup is one job, so it carries one set of $34.90 fees and one certificate. That is a good deal for families and neighbours. It is the wrong setup for a business that needs its own certificate for a compliance file, or a medical practice that needs a Business Associate Agreement on record. Those should book as their own job.
For households, the simplest version is a family trip. A grown child visiting from Massachusetts takes a parent’s boxes back down I-495 on the way home. Nobody makes a special drive, and the boxes go straight to our counter.
Offices can use a shared calendar instead. Pick one week a year, tell staff to bring sealed boxes from home that week if the owner agrees, and book one pickup or send one car. Our page on Rindge NH home shredding has a household-by-household plan.
When to make the run from Rindge
Paper piles up on a schedule, and so does the weather on Route 119. The best plan picks a date that suits both.
| Time of year | Why it works | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Late April to May | Taxes are filed, so the oldest year can go | Mud season on back roads near home |
| Early fall | Dry roads and long daylight | School-zone traffic on Route 119 villages |
| Before a move or sale | A fixed deadline forces the sort | Book a pickup a week or two early |
| Midwinter | Usually quiet at the counter | Snow on a two-lane road. Wait for a clear day |
Before anything goes in a box, check what you must keep. The IRS says to keep most income tax records 3 years, 6 years if you left out income worth more than 25 percent of what you reported, and 7 years for a loss from worthless securities or a bad debt deduction. Employment tax records are 4 years after the tax is due or paid, whichever is later.
The sorting is where most of the time goes, so do it once a year and do it properly. Our article on the benefits of an annual purge lays out a simple yearly routine, and how to prepare documents for shredding covers what to pull out of the boxes. Leave staples, paper clips and folders in. Take out binder rings and hanging-folder frames.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the closest shredding near Rindge NH?
We can only speak for ourselves. New Hampshire Document Shredding shreds at one office, 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA, about 48 miles from Rindge by Route 119 and I-495. We have no drop box or office in Rindge or anywhere in New Hampshire, so it is a planned drive or a pickup.
How long is the drive from Rindge to your office?
About 48 miles and roughly 80 minutes without traffic, by our routing check. Take Route 119 southeast through Ashby, Townsend and Groton to I-495 in Littleton, then I-495 north to Exit 92 for Route 38. Plan on about three hours round trip with unloading, and arrive well before our 5 p.m. close.
What does a Rindge pickup cost?
The shredding is priced the same as drop-off, plus $34.90 in per-job fees. Rindge is outside the towns our fixed zones name, so the transport fee is confirmed for your address when you book. Our listed zones run $129.95, $159.95 and $199.95. Ask for the fee before you choose a date.
Is it cheaper to save up and make one trip?
Yes. The $34.90 in per-job fees is charged every trip, so eight boxes in four trips cost about $377.20, against about $272.50 in one trip. Bring ten boxes and the flat rate applies, so the total drops to $234.90. One trip also saves three long drives.
Can Rindge neighbours share one pickup?
It works. One address, one job, one transport fee and one set of per-job fees, whoever owns the sealed boxes. The certificate is issued in the name of the person who books. Businesses and medical practices that need their own certificate or a Business Associate Agreement should book separately.
Can I put my papers in the Rindge transfer station recycling?
Paper with nothing personal on it, such as catalogs and junk mail, is fine for recycling. Statements, tax returns and medical bills should be shredded first, because recycling sends the paper on whole. The FTC’s advice is simple: shred papers with personal information before you throw them away.
Do I need an appointment to drop off?
No. Drop-off is walk-in, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pickups and witnessed sessions need an appointment. From Rindge with a big load, leave by about 2 p.m. so the weighing and unloading are done well before we close.
Do you shred hard drives from Rindge too?
Yes. Hard drives, tapes, CDs, USB sticks and phones are physically destroyed and quoted per item. Bag them separately from the paper so we can count them at the counter or on the pickup. They can ride down in the same car on the same trip.
