Most Merrimack business jobs are pickups: sealed boxes from the back room to our van.

Quick answer

New Hampshire Document Shredding handles Merrimack NH business shredding in two ways: we pick up sealed boxes from your office for the Zone 2 transportation fee of $159.95 (zone confirmed when you book), or your staff drive them to our office at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA, about 40 minutes down the Everett Turnpike. Shredding costs 99 cents a pound under 10 boxes, or $20 per banker’s box at 10 or more, plus $34.90 in per-job fees, so a 20-box pickup comes to $594.85 with a Certificate of Destruction included. Merrimack NH business shredding: who calls us and why

Merrimack is a business town that happens to be a bedroom community too. The Everett Turnpike runs the length of it, the Daniel Webster Highway carries the retail and industrial traffic beside it, and the office buildings on Continental Boulevard and Spartan Way sit a few minutes from the ramps. The town’s own business profiles page lists large employers on all three roads.

That mix produces a particular kind of paper problem. A manufacturer has decades of quality records and personnel files. A branch office has client paperwork it can’t put in a dumpster. A medical or urgent care practice prints intake forms every day. Every one of them eventually has a back room full of boxes that somebody has to deal with properly.

Offices on Continental Boulevard and Spartan Way

Client files, contracts, HR folders and finance printouts. These offices usually have elevator or ground-level access, which keeps a pickup at the base price.

Plants and shops on the Daniel Webster Highway

Personnel records, old purchase orders, shipping paperwork and engineering printouts. Volumes are often large, and a yearly pickup tends to fit better than drives.

Practices and professional offices

Medical and dental offices, accountants, insurance agents and lawyers. These need a certificate for the file, and a HIPAA practice can ask us for a Business Associate Agreement.

We shred in one place, our office on Route 38 in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. We have no office, kiosk or drop box in Merrimack, and we don’t bring a shredder to your curb. A pickup means a driver loads your sealed boxes and brings them back to Tewksbury, where they go through a cross-cut shredder and the shred is baled for recycling.

Our honest steer for Merrimack businesses: if one person can carry the boxes to a car in two trips, drive them down. If it takes a hand truck, book the pickup. The rest of this piece is about the second group.

How a Merrimack office pickup works, start to finish

Pickup is our off-site shredding service. It always needs an appointment, and we never promise a same-day collection. Book a week or two ahead of the date the room has to be empty, and you will have a choice of days.

The price assumes ground-level or elevator access. A second-floor suite with no elevator, a basement records room down a narrow stair, or a building with a restricted dock carries a handling fee. We quote it up front when you book, so the invoice matches the quote.

For the full list of what to have ready on the day, our shredding pickup checklist is a one-page version you can hand to whoever will meet the driver.

An office manager counts sealed cardboard file boxes stacked on a cart beside a reception desk
Count the boxes before you call. The count decides the rate.
  1. Count and call. Book online or call (978) 636-0301 with the address, a box count, and any drives or media. Tell us about stairs, elevators and the loading door.
  2. We confirm zone and access. Merrimack sits in greater Nashua, which we price as Zone 2 at $159.95. We confirm the zone for your exact address and quote any handling fee before the date is set.
  3. Seal and stage the boxes. Close every box. Leave staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders in. Take out three-ring binder hardware and hanging-folder frames. Bag drives and phones separately.
  4. Hand them over. The person who signs for records meets the driver, counts the boxes out, and keeps the booking confirmation. Your boxes stay in locked handling from your door to our shredder.
  5. Shredding and certificate. The boxes are shredded after they arrive at the Tewksbury office. You receive a certificate of destruction for the job, which goes in your records file.

One habit we recommend to every Merrimack office manager: write the box count on the booking, on a sheet taped to the stack, and on your own log. When the certificate comes back, staple it to that log. That one sheet answers any later question about what left the building and when.

What Merrimack NH business shredding costs at 10 to 50 boxes

Business jobs almost always clear the 10-box line, and that changes the math. Under 10 boxes we charge 99 cents a pound. At 10 or more, every large banker’s box is a flat $20 and every small box is $15, however dense the files inside. Every job then adds two fixed fees: $14.95 for HIPAA filing, which covers the certificate paperwork, and $19.95 environmental, which covers recycling the shred.

Totals for large banker’s boxes at the $20 flat rate, including the $34.90 per-job fees. The pickup column adds the $159.95 Zone 2 fee, confirmed when you book. Stairs or restricted access add a handling fee, quoted up front.

Read the chart from left to right and the pickup fee shrinks in importance. On 10 boxes it adds about two thirds to the bill. On 50 boxes it adds about 15 percent, and it saves someone loading 1,500 pounds of paper into a car. That is the whole case for pickup at business volume.

Two more points matter for budgeting. The fees and the transportation charge are per job, so one pickup of 40 boxes costs less than two pickups of 20. And the flat box rate rewards dense files: a box of legal-size folders that weighs 40 pounds still costs $20. Every rate we charge is on our shredding rates page, and the way the zones are drawn is explained in our guide to pickup zones in New Hampshire.

Running an office cleanout in Merrimack without losing a week

Cleanouts are where most Merrimack business calls come from. A lease is ending on Continental Boulevard, a department is moving to a new floor, a company has been acquired and the old records room has to go. The paper is the last thing anyone thinks about, and it is the one thing you can’t hand to the moving company.

  1. Start with the retention schedule. Pull the records that must be kept and box them separately, labelled for storage. Everything else is a shredding candidate. Our record retention schedule template lays out HR, payroll, finance and legal periods by department.
  2. Name one owner. One person decides what goes and signs for the pickup. Committees leave boxes half-sorted in the hallway on moving day.
  3. Box by department. Label each sealed box with the department and a number. You don’t list the contents, just enough to match the count on the certificate log.
  4. Book the pickup before the movers. Get the paper out a few days before the furniture, so the movers never handle files and the hallway is clear.
  5. Sweep the desks last. The final pass through drawers and cabinets always finds another few boxes. Bring those down to our counter on the way past, or add them to the pickup if the date allows.

For very large volumes, a full records room for example, part of the work may go to a third-party certified plant rather than our office shredder. Ask about it when you book a big cleanout. Our longer guide to office cleanout shredding covers moving and closing a business in more detail.

  • No long-term contract. Book one cleanout, or book a pickup every spring
  • Locked handling and a documented chain of custody from your door to the shredder
  • Cross-cut shredding at our Tewksbury office, never at the curb
  • A Certificate of Destruction on every job
  • Every bit of the shredded paper recycled

The rules Merrimack businesses are actually under

No single New Hampshire law tells every business how to throw away paper. The duties come from federal rules that follow the type of information you hold. Here is the short version for the kinds of businesses we see from Merrimack.

If your businessThe ruleWhat it asks for at disposal
Pulls credit or background reports on job applicants, tenants or customersFTC Disposal Rule, 16 CFR Part 682Burn, pulverize or shred the papers so the information can’t be read or rebuilt
Is a financial institution under FTC rules, such as a tax preparer, mortgage broker or financial advisorFTC Safeguards Rule, 16 CFR Part 314Securely dispose of customer information no later than two years after you last used it to serve the customer, unless you need to keep it
Is a HIPAA covered entity or business associateHIPAA Privacy Rule, 45 CFR 164.530(c)Reasonable safeguards for paper with health information, including at disposal. BAA on request
Holds computerized personal informationNH RSA 359-C:20Breach notice duties. Old drives should be physically destroyed, not stored

The FTC’s own guidance on the Disposal Rule names employers among the businesses covered. If your HR team runs background checks through a consumer reporting company, those reports belong in the shred bin when you are done with them. The FTC also suggests checking a disposal company’s references and its security procedures before you hire it, which is a fair thing to ask us.

Electronic media is a separate job. Old drives, tapes, USB sticks and phones are physically destroyed and quoted per item. For a practice, the HIPAA Security Rule standard at 45 CFR 164.310(d)(2)(i) covers disposal of electronic health information and the media it sits on. Bag media apart from the paper and see our page on hard drive destruction.

Medical and dental offices in Merrimack can ask for a Business Associate Agreement before the first pickup. The HIPAA side, including what counts as protected health information, is covered on our medical shredding service page.

When a Merrimack business should just drive it down

Not every business job needs a van. A two-person insurance office with six boxes after tax season saves $159.95 by sending someone south on a quiet afternoon. A practice that wants to see sensitive files destroyed can book a witnessed session and stand at the shredder.

The drive from Merrimack Town Hall at 6 Baboosic Lake Road is roughly 28 to 30 miles, about 40 minutes outside rush hour. Take the Everett Turnpike south through Nashua, stay on it as it becomes US 3 in Massachusetts, follow I-495 north toward Lawrence in Chelmsford, and leave at Exit 92 for Route 38. Our building is on Main Street, Route 38, in Tewksbury. Offices near Continental Boulevard are a few minutes closer. The turn-by-turn version is on our page for the Merrimack to Tewksbury drop-off.

Drop-off is walk-in, Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The turnpike through Nashua and US 3 in Chelmsford both slow down at commuting hours, so leave Merrimack late in the morning or early in the afternoon. A 4:30 departure with a full car is cutting it close. More on the session option is on our witnessed shredding page.

Why the Fearon Road scale house is not a shredding service

Merrimack’s Transfer Station at 1 Fearon Road takes commercial loads through a scale house, weighed and charged by the ton. When we checked the Solid Waste Division page in November 2026, commercial recycling was listed at $124 per ton, and commercial waste had to come from inside town limits. Residents need a permit sticker, replaced every January.

That is a fair deal for cardboard and clean office paper. It is not destruction. Paper that goes into commercial recycling is mixed and sent on whole, and a personnel file or a client statement in that load is still readable. The duty under the Disposal Rule and HIPAA is to make the information unreadable first.

Chain of custody for a Merrimack office pickup: sealed boxes, locked van, Tewksbury office, cross-cut shredder, bale, paper mill, certificate From a Merrimack back room to recycled paper Your office Boxes sealed, counted, signed out Locked handling Turnpike, US 3, I-495, Route 38 Tewksbury 1215 Main Street, Unit 115 Cross-cut shredder Baled shred to the paper mill Certificate of Destruction back to your records file The box count on your log matches the job on the certificate.
Every Merrimack pickup follows the same path: sealed at your office, locked in transit, shredded at our Tewksbury office, baled for recycling, and closed out with a certificate.

Office shredders are the other half-measure. A desk machine is fine for a few sheets a day. It is not built for a records room, and strip-cut models leave long strips that can be pieced back together. When a Merrimack office tells us its shredder burned out halfway through a cleanout, the answer is usually to box the rest and book a pickup.

Nearby, the same advice holds with different numbers. Our pages on shredding in Nashua and on Londonderry NH business shredding cover the towns on either side of the turnpike corridor.

Frequently asked questions

What does a 20-box pickup from a Merrimack office cost?

Twenty large banker’s boxes are $400 at the $20 flat rate. Add $34.90 in per-job fees and the $159.95 Zone 2 transportation fee, and the total is $594.85. That assumes ground-level or elevator access. Stairs or a restricted dock add a handling fee, which we quote before the job is booked.

Is Merrimack in Zone 2 for pickup?

Merrimack sits in greater Nashua, which we price as Zone 2 at $159.95 per pickup. We confirm the zone for your exact address when you book, so an office near a town line is never surprised by the fee. The shredding rates and the $34.90 per-job fees are the same in every zone.

Do you shred at our Merrimack office?

No. We do not bring a shredder to your address. A driver collects your sealed boxes and brings them to our office at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA, where they are shredded after they arrive. Your boxes stay in locked handling the whole way, and you get a Certificate of Destruction for the job.

How far ahead should a Merrimack business book a pickup?

Book a week or two before the date the room has to be clear. Pickups always need an appointment, and we never promise same-day collection. For an office move, schedule the paper a few days ahead of the movers so files never ride in the moving truck and the hallway is empty on moving day.

Can you sign a Business Associate Agreement for our practice?

Yes. A Business Associate Agreement is available on request for HIPAA covered entities and business associates. Ask for it when you book, before the first pickup, and keep the signed copy with your HIPAA policies. Every job also comes with a Certificate of Destruction for your records.

Do we need to remove staples and folders before the pickup?

No. Leave staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders in place. Take out three-ring binder hardware and hanging-folder frames, and keep anything that is not paper out of the boxes. Put hard drives, USB sticks and phones in a separate bag so we can quote them per item.

Is it cheaper for our staff to drive the boxes down?

Yes, by exactly the $159.95 Zone 2 fee. The shredding rate and per-job fees are the same either way. For under 10 boxes and a free afternoon, driving usually wins. For 20 boxes or more, or anyone who should not lift 30-pound boxes, the pickup is worth the fee.

Can we put office paper in Merrimack’s commercial recycling instead?

Clean paper with nothing personal on it, yes. The Transfer Station takes commercial recycling by the ton. Files with names, account numbers, health details or credit reports should be shredded first, because recycling sends the paper on whole. The Disposal Rule and HIPAA both expect the information to be made unreadable.
