Quick answer
New Hampshire Document Shredding handles Londonderry NH home shredding at its office at 1215 Main Street, Unit 115, Tewksbury, MA, about 26 miles from Londonderry Town Hall by I-93 Exit 4, typically 35 to 40 minutes without traffic. You pay 99 cents a pound under ten boxes, so one banker’s box is about $64.60 and five are about $183.40 with the $34.90 per-job fees, and ten boxes at the flat $20 rate are $234.90. The cheapest time to do it is once a year, after you file, with everything in one trip. Our residential shredding page has the full household price list.
Londonderry NH home shredding, start to finish
Londonderry NH home shredding with us is a weekday errand down I-93. You fill some boxes, drive about 26 miles to Tewksbury, and walk them into our office. We weigh them, you pay, and the paper is cross-cut that same business day. You leave with a receipt, and a Certificate of Destruction follows for the job.
That is the whole service for most households in ZIP 03053. This page sticks to homes. If you run a business near the airport or on Route 102, or want every option we offer the town, read our main page on the shredding service Londonderry NH homes and offices use. Business parks have their own guide, on Londonderry NH business shredding.
We have no office, kiosk or drop box in Londonderry or anywhere else in New Hampshire, and we don’t bring a shredder to your driveway. Everything is shredded at our Tewksbury office, just south of the state line.
Most Londonderry households bring us one of the same few loads. Old returns and the paper behind them. Bank, brokerage and credit card statements now available online. The pile of mail with account numbers on it. And sometimes the files from a parent’s house or a home office that just closed down. All of it goes through the shredder the same way, and all of it is billed by weight until you reach ten boxes.
Our advice for a Londonderry home is short. Shred once a year, in the spring, in one trip. Keep a box by the mail pile the rest of the year, add to it as you go, and let the tax-season purge sweep it up. That rhythm keeps the per-job fees to one set a year and keeps paper with your account numbers out of the blue cart.
The drive from Londonderry to our Tewksbury counter
From Londonderry Town Hall at 268B Mammoth Road, it is about 26 miles to our door. Without traffic, plan on 35 to 40 minutes. Roughly two of those miles are local roads to Exit 4, and almost all the rest is I-93 south.
- Get to Route 102 and Exit 4. From Town Hall, Mammoth Road, Pillsbury Road and Gilcreast Road bring you to Route 102 (Nashua Road) right by the Exit 4 ramps, about two miles in all. From the north end of town, Exit 5 at Route 28 may be the closer ramp.
- I-93 south for about 17 miles. Follow the signs for Salem and Boston. You pass Windham and Salem and cross into Massachusetts at Methuen.
- Bear onto I-495 south toward Lowell. At the Andover interchange, keep right for I-495 south. You only stay on it about two miles.
- Take the Route 133 exit for Tewksbury. Follow the short connector to North Street and turn left.
- Left on Main Street. North Street ends at Main Street (Route 38) after about 2.3 miles. Turn left, and our building at 1215 is just ahead. Parking is free out front, and staff help you unload.
We take walk-ins Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with no appointment. The counter is closed on weekends. Leaving Londonderry around 11 a.m. puts you past the morning commute and at our door before noon. If you drive I-93 into Massachusetts for work, the boxes can ride along on a day you have a late start or a long lunch.
Your Derry neighbors take the same road from the same exit, and our page on the Derry to Tewksbury drop-off covers trip timing and the cost of splitting a load in more detail.
Going home, you don’t have to retrace every turn. From our lot, a short run up Main Street to Chandler Street and East Street brings you to Dascomb Road in Andover and an I-93 north ramp signed for Lawrence and Concord. About 20 miles of interstate later you are back at Exit 4. The return is about the same 26 miles, with an empty trunk.
Two practical notes. Wet weather and cardboard don’t mix, so wait out a storm or bag the boxes before you load them. And around holidays, call (978) 636-0301 before you leave Londonderry to make sure the counter is open that day. It is a long way to drive to a closed door.
Cost per box for Londonderry NH home shredding
There are only two parts to the bill. The shredding charge is 99 cents a pound under ten boxes, or a flat $20 per banker’s box and $15 per small box once you bring ten or more. Then every job adds $34.90 in per-job fees: $14.95 for the HIPAA filing that covers your certificate and $19.95 for recycling the shred.
A banker’s box of household paper weighs about 30 pounds. We use that number below, but your total comes off our scale. A box packed with dense files weighs more, and a box of loose mail weighs less.
| Household load | Shredding charge | With $34.90 fees | Per box |
|---|---|---|---|
| A bag of mail, about 10 lb | $9.90 | $44.80 | n/a |
| 1 banker’s box, about 30 lb | $29.70 | $64.60 | $64.60 |
| 2 boxes, about 60 lb | $59.40 | $94.30 | about $47.15 |
| 3 boxes, about 90 lb | $89.10 | $124.00 | about $41.33 |
| 5 boxes, about 150 lb | $148.50 | $183.40 | about $36.68 |
| 9 boxes, about 270 lb | $267.30 | $302.20 | about $33.58 |
| 10 boxes at $20 | $200.00 | $234.90 | about $23.49 |
| 20 boxes at $20 | $400.00 | $434.90 | about $21.75 |
The tenth box pays for itself. Nine boxes by weight cost about $302.20 with fees. Ten boxes at the flat rate cost $234.90. If you are at eight or nine, the last box of old magazines and mail lowers your bill by about $67.
Look at the fixed fees as well. On one box, $34.90 of the $64.60 is fees, more than half. On ten boxes, it is about 15 percent. That is why we steer Londonderry households toward one big trip a year instead of a box every few months. The longer version of this math is in our guide to shredding cost, and our full price list lives on the shredding rates page.
Smaller boxes count too. Once your load reaches ten boxes, a small box is a flat $15 and a large banker’s box is $20, so a mix of shoe-box-sized file boxes and full banker’s boxes still gets the box rate. Under ten, everything simply goes on the scale. If you are unsure which way your load will price, bring it in and we will work it out at the counter before you pay.
Is it cheaper to buy a home shredder? For a few sheets a week, a small machine at home does the job. For boxes of old files, a home shredder jams, overheats and eats your weekend. Our page on how much paper a household shreds helps you size the job before you decide.
Tax season for Londonderry households: what to keep
Spring is when most households think about this, and that makes sense. You have just filed, the folder for the new year is fresh, and the oldest year in the basement has quietly aged out. The trick is knowing which year that is.
The IRS page on how long to keep records gives the rules. Keep most records 3 years from the date you filed. Keep them 6 years if you left out income you should have reported and it was more than 25 percent of the gross income on the return. Keep them 7 years if you claimed a loss from worthless securities or a bad debt deduction. If you never filed for a year, or filed a fraudulent return, keep the records indefinitely.
| Household record | IRS guidance | Our tip |
|---|---|---|
| Copies of filed returns | Keep, they help with future and amended returns | Keep the signed return, shred the drafts |
| W-2s, 1099s, receipts and worksheets | 3 years from filing in most cases | Shred the oldest clear year each spring |
| Records where income left out exceeded 25 percent of gross | 6 years | Label the box with the year it can go |
| Worthless securities or bad debt claims | 7 years | Keep these in a separate folder |
| Household employment tax records | At least 4 years after the tax is due or paid | Common for families who paid a caregiver |
| Years with no return filed | Indefinitely | Do not shred |
- Wait for the acceptance. Once this year’s return is accepted, you know which year just crossed the 3-year line.
- Set aside the exceptions. Any year with a bad debt, a worthless stock or unreported income stays put. Everything else past 3 years can go.
- Keep a thin spine, shred the bulk. Many households keep the signed return for every year and shred the W-2s, 1099s, receipts and drafts behind it. A full box becomes a slim folder.
- Sweep the rest of the house. Add old statements, expired insurance renewals and mail with account numbers. Our guide on what junk mail to shred tells you which envelopes matter.
- Make one trip. Bring it all in one weekday visit so you pay the $34.90 per-job fees once.
For more detail on federal timelines and the documents New Hampshire households most often ask about, read our guide on how long to keep tax records. And remember why this paper matters. The IRS identity theft guide tells taxpayers to protect Social Security numbers and financial information, including information for dependents and family members who have died. An old return holds all of it.
The statement drawer is the other half of a spring purge. If your bank, card and brokerage accounts now offer statements online, the paper copies in the drawer are duplicates. Check that you can download the years you need, then shred the paper. Keep anything tied to an open dispute, a loan payoff letter or a property purchase until that matter is settled.
Home offices deserve a moment of care. Plenty of Londonderry residents work from a spare bedroom and print things for an employer or a client. That paper may fall under your employer’s own disposal policy, so ask before you mix it with household boxes and ask whether they want a copy of your certificate. Purely personal paper needs no one’s sign-off but yours.
Packing a Londonderry car load the night before
You don’t need to sort anything for us, and you don’t need to pull staples. The prep is mostly about getting the boxes into the car and out again without a sore back or a torn bottom.
- Use boxes with lids. A banker’s box holds about 30 pounds of paper, which is plenty to lift
- Tape the bottoms of older boxes, especially ones that sat in a damp basement
- Pull the metal rings out of three-ring binders and the frames out of hanging folders
- Put old phones, USB sticks and hard drives in their own bag, apart from the paper
- Count your boxes. At eight or nine, find a tenth so the $20 flat rate applies
- Load the car the night before, then walk the house once more for the stray folder
When you pull in at 1215 Main Street, park out front and come inside. Tell us you have a car load, and someone will help you unload onto a cart. The boxes go on the scale, you see the weight, and you pay at the counter. Your paper is shredded that business day, and the certificate covers the whole job. Our document prep guide has a fuller checklist if you want one.
One more habit helps. Keep an empty box in the closet where the mail lands, and drop anything with an account number into it through the year. By next spring it is part of the load, and you never have to make a separate trip for a stack of envelopes.
The fixed numbers behind every Londonderry trip
Whatever you bring and whenever you come, these numbers stay the same. Build your plan around them.
- Cross-cut shredding at our Tewksbury office, the same business day you drop off
- Staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders can stay in
- Remove binder rings, hanging-folder frames and anything that is not paper
- Old phones, drives and discs in a separate bag, physically destroyed and quoted per item
- All shredded paper recycled
- No contract, no appointment for walk-in drop-off
If you have a dead laptop or an old phone in the same closet, keep it out of the paper box. The Town of Londonderry’s own guidance on electronics tells residents to remove personal information from computers, phones and tablets before disposal. We physically destroy drives and devices and quote them per item. See our page on hard drive destruction.
What Londonderry’s curbside and Drop-Off Center handle
Londonderry runs curbside trash every week and curbside recycling every other week, in town-provided carts. The town asks you to have them at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day, and recycling weeks alternate by lid color, blue or gray. Recyclables go in loose, with no plastic bags.
The Londonderry Drop-Off Center at 13 Recovery Way, off West Road, takes bulky items, extra recycling, yard waste, electronics and more. For the 2026 season, the town lists Saturday hours of 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from April 11 to November 21, and Wednesday hours of 3 to 7 p.m. from April 15 to September 2. Payment there is by check or card, no cash.
| Your paper | Town curbside or Drop-Off Center | Our Tewksbury counter |
|---|---|---|
| Catalogs, flyers, cereal boxes | Blue recycling cart | No need to bring them |
| Old returns, statements, pay stubs | Would go out as ordinary recycling | Cross-cut shredded, then recycled |
| Medical bills and EOBs | Would go out as ordinary recycling | Shredded, certificate on every job |
| Old phones and laptops | Electronics at the Drop-Off Center, fees for some items | Physically destroyed, quoted per item |
| When | Your collection day, or seasonal Center hours | Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
Recycling carts are built for volume, not privacy. Paper with your Social Security number or account numbers on it travels with everything else, and nobody along the way is treating it as confidential. When we checked the town’s trash, Drop-Off Center and special disposal pages in November 2026, none listed a shred day.
Free shred days do pop up around southern New Hampshire, usually hosted by a bank, a credit union or a community group, often with a box limit. If one fits your calendar and your load is small, use it. Our page on shred events explains how to check a host’s rules. For a tax-season purge of several boxes, the paid counter is open every weekday.
When a Londonderry household should book a pickup
For most homes, the drive wins. Two or three boxes cost $94.30 to $124 at the counter, and a pickup would add a transportation fee to that. A few situations change the answer, though.
A parent’s house
Fifteen or twenty boxes and nobody who should be lifting them. A pickup lets us load the car, and the $20 box rate keeps the shredding charge down.
No car that fits
If the honest answer is three trips in a small sedan, three sets of $34.90 fees add up fast. One pickup adds a transportation fee but only one set of job fees, and saves you the drives.
You want to watch
A witnessed session at our office costs $1.99 a pound with a $100 minimum, plus the $34.90 fees. One box falls under the minimum, so it totals $134.90.
Pickup is priced at the same shredding rates as drop-off, plus a transportation fee by zone. Our zones are $129.95, $159.95 and $199.95, and the zone for your Londonderry address is confirmed when you book. Pickups need an appointment and assume ground-level or elevator access. Stairs or tight access carry a handling fee we quote up front. Read how off-site shredding works before you book.
Neighbors one town over do the same math. Across the line in Hudson, our Hudson NH home shredding page covers their trip. Every town we serve is grouped on our service areas page.
Frequently asked questions
What does Londonderry NH home shredding cost for a few boxes?
A banker’s box weighs about 30 pounds, so each one costs about $29.70 at 99 cents a pound. Add $34.90 in per-job fees once per visit. One box is about $64.60, three about $124 and five about $183.40. Ten boxes switch to the flat $20 rate and come to $234.90 all in.
How far is your office from Londonderry?
About 26 miles from Londonderry Town Hall, typically 35 to 40 minutes without traffic. Take local roads to Route 102 and I-93 Exit 4, I-93 south about 17 miles, I-495 south toward Lowell, then the Route 133 exit, North Street and a left on Main Street to 1215 Main Street, Unit 115.
When should a Londonderry household shred old tax records?
After this year’s return is accepted. The IRS says most records can go 3 years after filing, with longer periods of 6 years for income left out over 25 percent of gross and 7 years for worthless securities or bad debt claims. Keep the signed returns and shred the support paper behind them.
Do you have a drop box in Londonderry?
No. We shred only at our office in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. We have no office, kiosk or drop box in Londonderry or anywhere in New Hampshire, and we don’t shred at your curb. Londonderry households either drive down on a weekday or book a pickup, with the zone confirmed when they book.
Can I put old statements in my Londonderry recycling cart?
The blue cart takes paper, but it treats your statements as ordinary recycling, not confidential records. Anything with a Social Security number, account number or medical detail should be shredded. Catalogs, flyers and plain envelopes can go in the cart. Statements, pay stubs and old returns belong in the shredding box.
Why should I bring ten boxes instead of nine?
Under ten boxes we charge by weight, so nine banker’s boxes run about $302.20 with fees. At ten boxes the flat $20 rate applies, so ten cost $234.90. If you are close, add one more box of old paper. It lowers your bill by about $67 and clears another shelf.
Do I need to remove staples or paper clips?
No. Staples, paper clips, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders can stay. Take out three-ring binder hardware, hanging-folder frames and anything that is not paper. Old phones, discs and hard drives go in a separate bag so we can quote them per item before we destroy them.
Will I get a certificate for household shredding?
Yes. Every job, even a single box from a Londonderry home, includes a Certificate of Destruction. It is covered by the $14.95 HIPAA filing fee within the $34.90 per-job fees. Keep it with the tax records you held on to, as a record of what left the house and when.
